Recently purchased a Sony STR DE485 A/V receiver off Craigslist, and want to hook it up to my old Polk speakers. Does anyone know if they are compatable, or do I need to purchase new speakers as well ?

As long as your older Polk speakers aren't SDA's or something closely related you'll be fine.

However, speakers will benefit from an external amplifier as opposed to running them off a receiver.

Could you tell us the model number of your Polks? That would help, as noted above.
