Recently purchased a Sony STR DE485 A/V receiver off Craigslist, and want to hook it up to my old Polk speakers. Does anyone know if they are compatable, or do I need to purchase new speakers as well ?

They are compatible.

As long as your older Polk speakers aren't SDA's or something closely related you'll be fine.
However, speakers will benefit from an external amplifier as opposed to running them off a receiver.Truck setup

Could you tell us the model number of your Polks? That would help, as noted above.
