Well I'm off to Detroit/Ann Arbor area as of tomorrow at 5 in the morning to visit some friends and meet some of the gf's family. Going to be there for about a week so will have a lot of spare time to do some audio looking. Anyone have some recommendations of any stores to go to? I know of the one that does a lot of used gear in Ann Arbor from audiogon I think its like Paradon or something like that.

Any others that someone has been too? I enjoy both HT and 2 Channel so if there is a store fantastic for one or the other let me know, I'll hit up as much as I can.

I know there is one in Novi, though I don't remember where. Not the biggest store, and I don't even remember what they carried. There are a few in the area that your going to be in. Time to google me thinks.

yeah I've been looking. There are a lot I've found so far but can't find any reviews or recommendations for any to go to. Paragon is the name of the one that is out on audiogon. I called them just to find out their hours and I spoke to Ron who was extremely nice and said I would have a lot to listen to and play with so that is exciting for me to hear. They carry a lot of higher end stuff like Krell, McIntosh, ect.

There may be a place on Stadium in Ann Arbor. It has changed hands a few times. I haven't lived there in a year though so I can't vouch for it.

I wouldn't consider Big Georges boutique...

That's about an hour drive from AA. Novi is about a half hour AA.

True but well worth the drive IMHO. Magnapan, Rogue Audio just to name a few brands. The guy doesn't seem to carry a lot of brands just the products he likes and you can tell he is passionate about the hobby. He is strictly 2 channel no HT stuff though.

got over to both Paragon and Overture audio yesterday. Once again Rega speakers blew me away for their price and what they did. This time I heard some floor standers hooked up to NAD 40W/channel intergrated with NAD CDP. They lacked bass a bit but for their size and the price (1100 speakers, intergrated 350) I was blown away. Would be a great bedroom 2 channel room and even for the space they were in was great. Also was set up perfectly, you could swear the singer was right in front of you the whole time.

Paragon had some nice stuff, however only seemed like they wanted to sell the higher end of the lines. I asked what they had at 4-5K for a pre or integrated from McIntosh and they guy didn't even seem like he wanted to help me out with it. Its a smaller place but has some very nice gear, Wilson audio, Krell, McIntosh, B&W. Only heard a pair of Jensen electrostats and that was like it, all the rest never got played and as the guy was constantly answering the phone while I was there. The kid came across that all he wanted to do is make a sale, and not really help you out or have you listen to gear and when you are the only one in there with 2 sales people its not like they are dying to do other things.

Overture was to me better as they seemed to understand the concept that not everyone wants to blow 10K on an amp alone. They also have some nice used stuff for sale. Almost got a McIntosh C28 for 435.00 with orig box, or I was tempted to get a Phase Linear 700B for 200.00. Just decided against as I told myself it probably wouldn't be a step up from what I currently have. But the guy there was very helpful and willing to show off what they have, and at least when the phone rang didn't ignore me to go answer it, but asked if someone else could. Also they have several nice Rega tables around from the lower end to middle. Also had the Rega speakers I liked and some nice Paradigm S8's used for 3800.00 or so.
