I have the opportunity to snag a pair of these. I have just sold my monitor 70's and am looking for an upgrade. I would have to drive 2 and a half hours and pay $350 for them. Would this be worth while? AFAIK they have had no upgrades.

Hey it's a nice speaker, anything sda is a step forward. The price is right there for them, the sda's have quite a range of prices. Just make sure they are in good shape. I have driven much further. It's a nice ride knowing what the prize is.
Go for it, you won't regret.

ok thanks for that advice. I was wondering why nobody would respond. The seller told me that the cabinets are in very nice shape and there is one hole in one of the grills. I might go have a look at them this weekend.

    $250 tops for 1A's, IMO.

Well my 1st venture into SDA was the SDA 1A's which I gave $300 for back in 2001; so $350 today doesn't sound out of line. If in good condition I would not hesitate. I still run mine here in the computer room, and enjoy them every bit as much as the bigger set out in the family room.

I was steered early on by this forum that the SDA's like a bit of high current power. I originally ran the SDA 1A's with a 70W/ch Kenwood receiver, that did not do them (or me) justice. I stepped it up to 200 W/ch and have never looked back. I do think the later vertical tweeter placement on the 1B & 1C is likely better, but certainly nothing that has been noticeable by me in any way to the pleasant sound they produce.

Most of the SDA discussion takes place in the Vintage forum, so search there for more info.
