Ciao
Just added an Elac Miracord 50H Mark II to my collection. Also have a 50H ( reserved for 78 duty) and a 46 MINT (Sold by Realistic). The 50H Mark II was the top of the line and had a strobe.....my 46 by Realistic looks the same with speed adjustment but without the strobe and had round buttons.
Moral of this story....if anybody with capstan drive TT's.....check to see if platter spindle is perpendicular. Just spent a day ...tearing apart the 50H II. Regreasing and oiling and cleaning....but to NO avail. ...Still ran erratic. Put my ear to platter and could hear a rubbing sound. Put my finger on spindle and pushed slightly in different directions. Pushing back solved the problem. Unscrewed the T plate that held the spindle and shimmed.....WA>>>LA....wonderful sound. Hope this helps someone with those OLE wonderful German TT's.
For your info.....the platter on the 50H Mark II must weigh 6lbs. These tables in good shape ...RUN dead quiet and are a steal. Find one and compare to belt and DD 's. They are a wonderful specimen of mechanical engineering....before all this other ****. Also...simple to add RCA cables....just plug in a longer pair.
....Anyone have a 50H Mark II and know how to use the STROBE....no markings on the platter. I don't have the manual but DO have the repair documents and original ad.

That's a beautiful table.
We just recently had a member buy a Micro Seiki table where the motor attached to the spindle was off kilter causing the platter to rub on the plinth on every rotation. IIRC he simply adjusted the motor and all is well. -
I have an old Dual/United 1229 that I am slowly rebuilding to set up for 78 duty. I have a lot of the old 78 records that I want to get into. I get into the mood for the old stuff every now and then.

Just reading an older post dating back to Jun 2010 regarding a Elac Miracord 50H ii which was the exact problem I was having. Rubbing noise and uneven speed. Problem was the platter spindle not perpendicular. A very nice record changer once problem was cured.
