im looking for speakers that are bass capable for a subless system, are the monitor 50s able to put out some fairly decent low end? oh and recommending the extremely expensive towers is not going to do me any good because i dont have the money for it. i want to stay within the monitors and go for the cheapest one i can get. thanks.

    i would say go with the 60s minimum but more than likely if you can afford the 70s just go for them.
    Main 2ch -
    BlueSound Node->Ethereal optical cable->Peachtree Audio Nova 150->GoldenEar Triton 2+
    TT - Pro-ject Classic SB with Sumiko Bluepoint.

    TV 3.1 system -
    Denon 3500 -> Dynaudio Excite 32/22

    a nice -3db response down to 40hz is usable bass, polks response claims dont seem right, my 40s supposedly have a response to 47hz, while i have a pair of sony speakers with a response (probably exagerated) to 45hz, the sonys may not sound as good as the 40s but they do indeed have decent bass. and as far as shaking the whole house with a PSW 10, it will and does do that, this thing continues to suprise me, you can hear upstairs music playing all over the house thanks to it (the low end atleast)

    If I were you I'd save up and grab the Monitor 70's. That is what I'm going to be purchasing very shortly. You can grab a pair shipped for ~$280 (you may have to bid on a few) on the Polk Direct eBay store.

    Also, which Sony speakers do you have? (I'm upgrading from SSF-5000's)

    Monitor 50's were my first speaker. I would say to look at a higher regarded speaker. They are very nice speakers for the money, but it sounds like you really like your bass, and if that's true, you will be disappointed.
    2 Channel/HT:
    Sony SS-M9 P's (ES version)
    Sony SS-M1CN Center Channel
    Polk RT800 Surround Speakers
    Odyssey Stratos Dual Mono Amplifiers
    TAD 150 Signature Tube Preamp
    Harman Kardon HK354
    Sony SACD Player

    Speaking of bass capable I have a pair of TSi 300s... I have yet to take them out of the box. Will they produce decent bass?
