Speaker Placement help
I am finishing my basement and am trying to figure out how to layout my theatre set-up. Right now it looks like the only option would be putting the couch against the back wall. Now this poses a problem for me because i want to do in-wall speakers. I'm doing a 5.1 system and if i put the in-wall speakers on the back wall they will be firing into the center of the room and right past my ears. I'm guessing i would lose the surround feel. Would doing in wall speakers up front and in-ceiling speakers for the rear work ok? I figured the in ceiling speakers as my rears would provide that surround sound feel. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kevin

Just about anything will "work", but it's hard to help you optimize your space without more details on the room etc.
Perhaps you could wall mount the surrounds in side locations for 5.1. Add the rears if you ever go 7.1. -
If i'm standing at the back of my room it 16 foot from back to front and 13 foot side to side. The back of the room has now all so its a 3 sided room. If i can do this option i'm golden. Their might be some structual elements that wont allow me to use this set-up, we'll see. My other option would be to sit 13 feet from my tv with 1t feet from side to side. This option gives me a back wall but doesnt give me a wall to my left side. The other draw back would be that i have to leave my couch against the back wall. From what i've read on forums, nobody recommends sitting with ur back up against the wall because it poses some sound issues and it makes for a tricky situation in reguards to rear surround placement on my 5.1 set-up. Hope this clears it up.
