I have to have this as it will fit my needs perfectly. And you even have the option to order extra shelves with it for furture gear add ins.
Anyone else seen these and thinking of buying one??
Im going for the 30inch version with 2 extra shelves.Shipping is almost a deal breaker though.

Make sure it has ALOT ventilation on the back. since "most" amps get really hot. and heat is the worse enemy of amps and many electronics.;)

    Welcome to CP!

Where did you source the aluminum extrusions? Did you make the shelves as well?
I'd love to do something along these lines, I've built machinery based on this type of structural extrusion, and loved working with it.

    +1

Check to see if they can provide for adequate ventilation. Nice looking stuff!

It looks like "Item" product. We use tons of it where I work. It is a very versatile product. We use the stuff you see for building cabinets, stands, machinery safety fencing, etc... They also make linear units that we use for gantry systems in production parts transfer.

Do a search for "Item" products and you will find website. Not sure how easy it is for the average consumer to buy. It is more of an industrial product.

I had never thought about it until seeing that stand pic, but we throw enough scraps of that stuff away that I could build a heck of a stand. A great thing about it...the shelves would be infinately adjustable.

Nice find, do they make it in black? +1 for ventilation, maybe adding a fan to the cabinet where the AVR would be sitting?

It is available in black, but I wont need a fan since I wont be using it for the monoblocks.I have seperate stands for the 565s.
Hey Tim,maybe you could source some of that stuff you throw away for me,,,I could save a couple hundred building my own rack like decal did. What do you think.Where can I get the stuff I would need to do it?

In the pictures, the backs of the cabinets are solid, and the back seems permanently attached. How would you hook everything up? And barely any ventilation. Other than those minor details, the 60" tall rack would be perfect for my setup.

The backs have slots that can be punched out for convection cooling:D
There is also a half inch gap behind the shelves for cords.I may need to cut a little bit of extra off to fit my power cords though.

I saw the tiny slots in back. But how do you access the back of the equipment to make all the connections?

I should be able scrounge up some stuff. I'll do some rummaging around at work this week. How tall are you thinking? We build a lot of equipment that we send all over the world so we always have a good supply on hand. Naturally, I won't cut up stuff that is on the shelf, but digging through all the cutoffs is ok.

Depending on length, there is also the option of ordering some. I imagine it is fairly expensive, but I can ask someone in purchasing.

It would be easy to build a stand with this stuff. There are slots that run the entire length. The slots hold a special sort of t-nut that can be slid the entire length for infinite adjustability. Also available are the L brackets for attaching the shelves, or whatever. Making brackets would be easy enough by sticking a piece of angle iron in the cutoff saw and then drilling a few holes.

I am sure you could find shelf material at Lowes, Home Depot, or any of them kinds of places. Maybe even look on CL or locally for someone that has an old butcher block style counter top for sale cheap.

Dont worry about it Tim.I just ordered the stereo cabinet from decibledesigns.
The back can be removed for cable hook up but it is recomended you put it back on to prevent racking----whatever that means.
This guy seems to know his stuff so Im going to have him make me some quality endcaps for the 2bs in a few weeks to match the cabinet.

Thanks for the lead on Item products! It looks like Salamander sources it's extrusions from them. It also appears that the midwest distributor will sell small enough quantities that I can set up an account for my woodworking business. That will make it easy to build custom HT and audio racks.

I'd love to do something along these lines, I've built machinery based on this type of structural extrusion, and loved working with it.

The aluminum extrusions came from 8020,Inc. There are several high end rack manufacturers that use this same material. The shelves are actually 20X15 maple butcherblocks from overstock.com.I spent all day today staining and polycoating the shelves. When I get it put back together,I'll post a new pic.
If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

Very Nice! I have my pieces of item, I just need to decide on a final design.

Now, how about wood end caps and wood strips for the slots in the aluminum?

8020,inc. offers caps and strips in different colored plastic.I used the caps(plain,no logo) but I kinda like like the "industrial" look of the slots in the extrusions.I'm having some 1.5" brass stock machined into footers at a local machine shop to screw into the bottom of the legs.
