Colorado in the Pac 10
Nebraska in the Big 10
49ers playing in Santa Clara

Up is down - down is up. I hope I don't try and replace my Polks with Bose.

No confusion...The SEC will still be the best!

It does all come down to money. The reason schools want into the Big 10 is because they made the most per team out of every conference because the Big 10 TV network was and is extremely successful. The other conferences want to keep up with revenues, thus all this re-alignment. IMO a playoff will never come about, because being invited to one of the 30 + Bowl Games turns into a huge pay day for the Universities. Now, here is my humble idea on a playoff system:

Conference Champs from the following get into the playoff:
    Big 10
    Pac 10
    SEC
    Big 12
    ACC
MAC (or Big East - doesnt matter to me)
    At large/Independent Team 1
    At large/Independent Team 2

That makes 8 teams total - 3 rounds of games to decide the Nat'l champ.
The last 2 spots would be reserved for teams outside the above conferences, OR 2 teams that kicked arse in the above conferences, but didn't win the Conference Championship, or 1 of each. This would be voted on by a 50/50 split vote between the coaches and writers.
The above scenario would give the NCAA their 7 top bowl games, which could rotate every season, then the toilet bowl games could still be held outside the above playoff system. Now, you may be saying "We can't add all this extra games, these kids need to go to school". ANSWER: Limit or get rid of the out-of conference games against the likes of Southeast North Dakota State Tech, and problem solved.

That makes way too much sense for the NCAA to do. But I sure wish it would happen.

All the big schools should just agree to leave the NCAA and make their own College Football League.. then they can keep all the revenue, pay their "amateur" players as much as they want, have a playoff system, and not have to abide by overly-authoritarian NCAA rules.

Thus we could finally stop pretending college football athletes are truly students who happen to also be good at sports

Texas University Athletics made 134 million dollars last year. I don't know how much of that was football but I wouldn't be surprised if it's north of 70%. They could never just pay the football players though because of title 9.

Just looking at the paying of college athletes on a more macro scale, the college education many of them receive for free should really be payment enough. How many normal Joes and Janes have to really work their arses off to pay for tuition, while these big-sport athletes (football, basketball) get the world handed to them on a silver platter when they go to college. IMO paying athletes would create even more of the dis-functional mindset among kids that "hey, all I really need to do is be a great basketball player, then I will get paid to play in college, and then get rich in the pros", when the fact is only around 1% can make a living in a professional sport. And on the other side, does the NCAA really care about the student in "student athlete"...just some thoughts.
