Just bought a Big Green Egg as a combo birthday/Father's day. I've been wanting one for a while and will pick it up Saturday afternoon.

Any of you caught in the green ceramic cooker turbulence?

Everybody I know who has them loves them. I'm still not sure about them. I prefer the side by side smokers better. I can control temperature and stoke the fire without having to open the oven itself.

Side by sides are great. We used a couple of them at a recent local contest. Huntsville has an annual Whistlestop festival and it has both pro and amateur divisions. My team won 2nd place in the people's choice awards.

It was realy cool as you look around the grounds and saw cokkers and smokers from your backyard variety to trailered beasts worht tens of thousands of dollars. It's where I also saw a sea of Big Green Eggs and gained an appreciation for what they are capable of.

Can't wait to break it in :).

Friend of mine has an 'egg' - he's done up some fantastic smoked brisket.

He swears by it now for anything bbq'd.
