Can E-bay sellers leave negative feedback?

OK, I thought I read a while ago how E-bay sellers could not leave negative feedback for buyers, but I forgot if this was the case for E-bay or Audiogon.

As far as E-bay activity, I'm only a buyer (never sold something). I always make my payment immediately and I've noticed but all but my last seller leave positive feedback for me immediately (before they even ship the item out), because I pay so fast.

The last seller has not done so...and guess what? there's a small problem with the item. We are still under discussion (I'm not sure she's going to make it right yet), but neither of us have left feedback for one another yet. If I do end up having to leave bad feedback (i.e. if she refuses compensate for the problem in some way), I want to know if she can retaliate by leaving me bad feedback in my role as a buyer.

Up to now, I've never left less than perfect 5-star feedback and never received less than this myself, so thats why I'm verging on unchartered territory here.

I thought they restricted sellers from leaving negative, but I think I've seen some retaliatory negative feedback from sellers lately. Some great, nasty stuff too.
I left my first out-and-out negative a few months ago, but I told the guy if he made good, I'd change it to neutral. Which he did, so I did. He didn't leave me any feedback either way.

Ebay want you to work it out.

The seller is the one that usually has last word on the feedback. I know a lot of them that leave feedback the minute you pay for something, and I know a few that wait until you leave feedback.
Ebay states that the last action is to recieve the shipment and thus you the buyer should be first to leave feedback and then the seller.
Not saying it goes this way, just stating what the site says.

They can't leave you the red donut anymore, but some try to get around it by leaving a positive mark and posting negative comments. It's a violation, so if a seller does this, report it to ebay and they'll remove it.

Thanks, Mike...both for the info and for the tip to check back on my own feedback if it comes down to this. I'm really trying to resolve the issue with the seller before it comes down to feedback, but if she won't budge its good to know what my options are.

They can't leave negative feedback, but they can leave nasty comments. So they have to give you a positive mark, but they can say anything they want in the comments area. I had a dirt bag completely rip me to shreds even after e-bay found in my favor over a dispute that was his doing. I guess it only matters if people read every comment. You have a chance to rebutt any comments made.

I'm sure my matter was MUCH less significant than yours. Its really quite small. Basically it was a double-CD listed as "Like New" with the description that everything was perfect and in tact.

Now the outside of the cases did not have any cracks, however, one of the two hinges on the INSIDE of the double-CD jewel case was broken off (I don't have any replacements for these special cases). This means that the CDs flop all around and its just a matter of time before the other plastic hinge breaks off . So, I e-mailed her telling her how the double-jewel case was broken on the inside upon arrival. She asked what could she could do, and I requested either mailing me a replacement case or refund a dollar through PP that I could use toward purchasing a new one (I don't have any on hand). I said it was up to her.

She swears that it was perfect when it left her hands, but I'm really doubtful...there wasn't even a tiny nick/crack on the outside of the case but somehow the inner hinge of a closed CD was broken in transit (2 days)???? I have a hard time seeing how that could happen (though she did pack in large envelope typically used for books not the small ones used for CDs so it could have flopped around I suppose)

Then, I received a pretty nasty / accusatory e-mail, claiming that I was "trying to blackmail" her and that she felt she was put over a barrel because of her 100% rating might be at stake (if I gave her negative feedback, which I never raised in any of my messages)

Anyway, after I sent a second polite e-mail, noting that the whole blackmail thing was ridiculous and I just wanted proper recompensation, she caved and sent me the dollar. Geez. Well, when she made good, I was about to leave her positive feedback but I just noticed her final response (it went to directly to my Yahoo Trash folder) in which she still tried to guilt trip me, claiming how she would never make a demand like this (I never demanded anything, I made a request with two options)...so in the end, I'm not going to leave any feedback at all. She came through (clearly to protect her rating), but had a piss poor attitude from beginning to end.

All in all a very small matter, but man the attitude she maintained just pissed me off...

I agree with our MOD about big RusSmaN....it seems a 'small' matter at best.

On another note, Norm. Did you ever get your LSI-9s back from the mod-shop.....? And if so, what do you 'think'?

    Thanks,

A very small matter indeed that I've put behind me, but the collective knowledge here at Club Polk once again comes through. Good stuff to know for the future.

Still anxiously awaiting the upgraded x-overs for the 9s. I absolutely can't wait to get my ears on them. Its only when I started listening to music through my HT over the past couple of weeks that I really realized how much I miss the Lsi-9s. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, I suppose.

I've done a lot of buying and selling, as far as I'm concerned there is far too much emphasis placed on the feedback to where sellers get abused trying to get good feedback when the buyers are jerks.

Some of the seller stories I've heard are insane that ebay and paypal have not helped resolve in the seller's favor as they should. I've had things happen like a $1500 watch I sold that was perfect gets the buyer reporting it's not what it's supposed to be so paypal gives them their money back without even seeing to it I get my watch back.

I consistantly made over $20k a month but that simply isn't possible now in watches without negotiating a minefield of buying and selling treacheries not to mention ridiculously absurd fees.

1500 dollars in time pieces...you must travel in exclusive circles...here in China (and I don't condone it!) you can't tell the difference between a Rolex, Omega, Tag Hauer, or Rado, etc., from its knock-off unless you're a jewler with a good eye and a monocle. lol

That's the very reason I have never touched dealing Rolexes, there are knockoffs with real parts in them, it takes a true expert to mess with them.

I've seen some incredible Rado knockoffs, they even have sapphire crystals and real ceramic links.
