Bi-amping using a 7.1 Receiver

Hi

I am new to the Hi-Fi world, so forgive me if I am asking something obvious.

I bought a pair of Monitor 70 and a Pioneer VSX-920-K 7.1 receiver. I know each speaker can handle up to 275 watts and the Pioneer is 110 watts per channel.

My questions are:
1- If I bi-amp the speakers using different channels of the receiver, will I get more total power? (since I think the impedance of speaker could be different when it's bi-amped and less power than 110 watts may be delivered.)

2- If bi-apming is an option, do I need to adjust the receiver to send high and low frequencies to corresponding channels? Or the internal cross-over of the speakers will do this?

Thanks,
Arash

IMHO, bi-amping with an AVR is a total waste of time, you need external amps for proper bi-amping. If you can not afford exterrnal amp, simply forget about bi-amping and drive them normally as you might simply worsen the SQ bi-amping with the AVR.

    1. Yes, it would provide additional power.

    2. Depends on how the amp can be configured. Some will let you do this. As stated above, separate amps are the best way to go.

    WELCOME TO CLUB POLK!

Bi-amping with that Pioneer should NOT increase your actual power. You need either two independent amps, or a receiver MULTIPLE-AMP section that has FULLY INDEPENDENT, DISCRETE and INDIVIDUAL power supplies for each of its channels. VERY FEW do....and those that do cost a lot more than the Pioneer 920.
