WinMX

A couple of months ago, several people here recommended WinMX for MP3 downloads. I have WinMX now, but have NEVER been able to get it to even start to download a song. I can search, find the song, get the lists with all the user information and status/server, etc. But it never starts the download.

Any nickel advice on what I'm doing wrong, or not doing? The most that ever happens is I get a "Remotely Queued" message in the "status" section of the transfer page.

The Help pages are apparently under construction.

Edit: I've noticed that when other users try to get songs I have, they time out. I'm apparently forced to use the "secondary" connection. It wont' let me pick primary, even though I'm at work and essentially hardwired to the net..???

Dammit... I had Napster ALL figured out.. grabbed over 650 songs.. and then they folded and I'm back to ground zero.

I used to use WinMX too. but I don't anymore for the reason you stated. Now I use Kazaa for finding music and video. give that one a try.

Interesting.... a few months ago before I tried WinMX.. I posted about problems with Kazaa, and the response was overwhelmingly "WinMX."

    burdette,

I may have been one of the ones that recommended WinMX. I haven't been downloading anything lately though. Last time I tried WinMX I had similar problems that you are having. There's just too much traffic on there now (not like it used to be). I mean when you've got like 99 people qued up to download a song it's ridiculous.

Actually, I've been purchasing cds again lately. I find the sound quality to be better on a store bought cd.

If you are going to use Kazaa, use the Kazaa Lite version. It doesn't have the spyware / adware stuff on it which is a pain.

I use WinMX every once in a while. The key thing to downloading stuff is to check out the "Status/Server" column and look for the ones
labeled "X + Y available users", where X & Y are numbers. You have better luck with these files than the "XX in queue" stuff.
Damn....8 lines...I've gotta put my sig on a diet now....
