I recently put together my first HT and looking for the final piece..THE SUB.
The room is rectangular and is approximately 10x16.
My budget is around $500. I mostly watch movies and some music.
Can anyone recommend me a sub?
Thanks..

The Polk 505 is a great sub and with your budget you could set up duals (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882290130). If you can wait until August/September, you can get your hands on the new Epik Legend. From what I've read, they make great subs.

What is the ceiling height? Need to talk Cubic, not Square footage.
Assuming 10X16X8 you get a 1280 cubic foot room. Is this room open to the rest of the house?
For $500 I would look at some SVS b-stock (see if they have any PB12-NSD). New it is $599.
You could also look at TWO BIC Acoustech H100's. These are a good bang for the buck sub.
There is Elemental Design Audio A3-250 for $485 shipped.
Use the forum search feature also. Cast your net wide and hit sits like Audioholics / AVSForum / Hometheatershack. Good luck in your search for affordable boom. -
for 500 your so close to an Epik Empire in budget which should perform very well for you.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Isn't the Empire $800? I don't know if you are budget tight at $500 if that constitutes 'close'. -
The Epik site says the Legend will be available in late August/early Sept. 2010 for $499.00 plus shipping. In the meantime , check around here in the For Sale section or A-gon,CL etc. for a used Epik,SVS,HSU, sub. The Klipsch Synergy 12 and BIC subs get good reviews also.

Lots of good pointers however, what is important is what you are driving along with the sub... I noticed you are driving Lsi series so don't cheap out on your sub, go for the best bang for your full budget (even if you can throw some extra cash) you don't want your sub to be underpowered and not be able to keep up with the Lsi's, it would be a shame. While the 505 is a good sub for the money, I wouldn't pair them with the Lsi's. How about some SVS? Check for sales and go for only one if budget doesn't allow for 2, you can still go back later once budget allow (if you are not satisfied with only 1,,,)
If there is any way for you to audition the Polk DSW series in your area you could get a good deal with Polk eBay store; http://stores.ebay.com/Polk-Audio-Direct__W0QQ_sidZ686154689?_nkw=DSW&submit=Search
Cheers!
