So after changing lots of factors including new MonsterCable speaker cables, running absolutely no bass boost in my computer or receiver, I've come to notice that my RTi A3's have a peak in the response somewhere close to 140 Hz, give or take a bit. Any insight as how to fix it? They are kinda sorta in a corner, and I have a hunch that might be the culprit, but I don't really have the option to move them right now.

    Hmmm...I think you have identified the issue - placement. I had my RTiA3s on wall mounts and noticed that there is bass reinforcement the closer you get them to the wall - more so if they are in a corner.

    Can you put any fabric or other acoustic absorbing material behind the speakers. The rear facing power port probably is compounding the issue....not sure if you can plug that or not - may want to pass that one by Polk CS.


    Does your receiver have any auto-calibration to even out the response?

    Do you have a Graphic Equalizer - maybe you could some freq notching adjustments to cut back the 140Hz band.

    H9: If you don't trust what you are hearing, then maybe you need to be less invested in a hobby which all the pleasure comes from listening to music.

    Well I'm going to get them up on the wall as soon as I can find a table of some sort to replace my armoire. It's height and the fact that my TV resides on top of it is totally in the way of where I want to place my right speaker, but once I get a table there, all of that will change. I guess what I was trying to find out is if that was a natural characteristic of any sort or if it's because of my environment

    I discovered it's the location, which is a shame because I love my corner setup...

    Isn't that what they always say: location, location, location. Just kidding...I also thought it a bit ODD that that speaker would have any peak in that region? Glad to see you solved the problem.
