Need a new HT sub...

I've had my super junior for quite a while and frankly, it just doesn't get with it in my basement as it did in my last place so I'm ready for an upgrade. I need a suggestion on what sounds great and digs (preferably below 20htz) as my junior claims 24 and I don't believe it. While I listen to movies/video games 100% of the time, I still want accuracy and detail. The junior has enough output for me but I was more presence and depth. I have some money burning a hole in my pocket and upgradeitis has bit me but my budget is as close to 800 as possible, 900 tops after fees and shipping. Below is a list of subs I'm considering. Notice there's no downfiring subs (I hate the sound personally) and no SVS. The only svs I've heard was loud as hell and had less SQ than the kid down the street with 2 15's in his trunk rattling like no tomorrow. Needless to say, wasn't impressed and clarity before output. My room is 12x25x8. I'm open to used deals too if you know of something. Soooo who's heard these?

Epik Empire or Sentinal (one on Agon for a good price)
elemental Designs A5-350 (new model) or maybe dual A3-250
Anything from Rythmik as I don't really know their models but servo intrigues me.
Anything else???...

Home Setup: Sony VPL-VW85 Projo, 92" Stewart Firehawk, Pioneer Elite SC-65, PS3, RTi12 fronts, CSi5, FXi6 rears, RTi6 surround backs, RTi4 height, MFW-15 Subwoofer.

Car Setup: OEM Radio, RF 360.2v2, Polk SR6500 quad amped off 4 Xtant 1.1 100w mono amps, Xtant 6.1 to run an eD 13av.2, all Stinger wiring and Raammat deadener.

The Empires are said to be pretty good Toxis. Not sure if your completely against SVS but the PB13U is said to be in a different league. It should pressurize your room with no problems. I would definitely say check out the Ultra or buy dual Empires if Epik still has that awesome deal on them.

Edit: Just saw your budget, go with the Epik.

Duals for 1100 is a deal

The Empires look good but I'd wait a little to see what new sub Chad will be coming out with soon. It's past due and he's definitely working on something.

From what I'm told, he is planning a smaller, cheaper sub than the Empire and an expensive "statment" sub. He's doing so well with the Empire, I think it will be his bread and butter sub for quite some time. As far as value, the Empire, IMO, stands alone currently. There's little objective information about the sub, but from my reading, it looks like it's got similar performance to an Ultra in sealed mode, maybe a tad less output, and a pair is so affordable that one is forced to consider them in the same league as an Ultra or Submersive.

Oh damn! Too bad it's such a long wait. If they were shipping soon, I'd buy duals right now.

I used to be a freight vendor for Epik for subs that couldn't ship UPS or Fedex. In fact, I probably delivered nearly every Conquest. Chad and I still talk occassionally. Not everything he's got in the works makes it to market and I didn't know the dual 12 was that close...just that it was coming. The Legend really looks like another winner at that pricepoint.

You should've spoke up in the Conquest sale thread here. Could've maybe got the seller a lot more money or at least hooked up someone else on the forum than a single poster. lol

I have to admit, I do like how Epik/ED is hitting homeruns with the product. They are making some really nice product at some insane pricing. Don't get me wrong with SVS, but it seems they're not bringing alot to the table. I'd like to see them offer some insane subs at great prices too. I know they have a few sealed subs coming, but they are quite costly.

Man, you guys must be 'psychic'! What a SUB for the money....the poundage 'alone' is worth it. This even gives 'me' a moment to pause and I'm pretty tight with the old wallet. But what a great intro price. How long do you think that will 'last'?

Thanks for the heads-up Ron. I'm currently enjoying a PSW 505 after using an 8-inch Pioneer HTIB sub. The difference is like night versus day. I can only imagine how either of the Legends will perform. I will keep an eye out for reviews of these subs.

Can't do it for individuals. My partners (an LTL carrier and a forwarder) only handle corporate business.

I figured I'd go ahead and email Epik themselves to see what they say. Fast response IMO; sent late last night and got a response in less than 24 hours. Impressive for a small company clearly busy as hell right now. Regardless, here's his response. What's everyone think?
    Hello Todd!

Thanks for your email. The Legend was designed around the idea of providing a smaller subwoofer. It is quite a bit smaller than an Empire.

I think that bang for the buck, an Empire would be the better option. It is $100 less and offers huge output.

The dual Legends of course do provide that nice ability to place them in different spots. You would have more placement options and they are smaller and easier to fit into a room.

A pair is definitely up there with the output of an Empire. I didn't design them specifically to sell in pairs, but I know that many will love the option. Sometimes its cool to have the look of dual subs. Plus, having four 12's is pretty sweet.

My gut says get an Empire and save your cash, unless you can't live without the flexibility and "Wow Factor" of dual Legends.

I can say that having a big sub in a gaming system is pretty amazing. I used our old demo room many times with a PS3 or an Xbox 360 when friends and relatives stopped by.

With the big 14 foot, screen it was WAY too much fun to have a surround system chugging along with the action on the screen. I remember endless hours playing Star Wars Battlefiend with my nephew back in the day, and hearing At-At walkers plowing through the room every minute or so. It is a blast.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks again for your email and your interest in Epik Subwoofers.

    All the best,

    Chad

Leaning towards dual legends. Any other thoughts? Any rythmik experience I should be aware of? What about elemental?

I think per Chad's email the Empire will still outgun dual Legends...and Rythmik makes nice sounding subs (as does Epik), but I also think the Empire and dual Legends will outgun it. ED still has long waits with their BTO model.

Unless he's willing to come down to 900 shipped(which is pick up only nowhere near KC), I don't think the def tech will be in my HT. So now I'm thinking single empire, dual legends or rythmik F12. I like the idea of the rythmik for pure SQ and depth. I really don't need a TON of output. I have a super junior now and it already is too loud for the misses. The dual legends would be fun for placement and room filling bass. Empire just for shear balls to the wall umph. Never thought this wouldve been this tough.
