You should NOT have all 6511's. That would be wrong. You should have 6510's too. -
Edit double post..

Here are the documents in the Vintage speaker section for the left and right speakers:

Well that's interesting... Hopefully I haven't lost my mind. (thanks for the link Lee/Conrad) I did only check the right channel, but it looks like I'll be checking them again when I get home.
I wonder if the left has all 6510's? Thanks so much for everyone's help here. It's always rewarding to get to the bottom of things.
If the 6510s were in one side, and 6511s in the other, would that contribute to what I've described? -
I am sure you know this but keep in mind each speaker is wired differently and the drivers are in different locations. They are a mirrir image to each other.

Right... I realize that question sounded pretty naive. What I meant was, are there sonic differences between the 6510 and 6511?
IIRC, there are several midwoofers in Polk's lineup that are more or less equal. Figured if that was the case with these two, it wouldn't necessarily be a contributing factor. -
I'm guessing there would be impedance and or sensitivity differences between the two different drivers so it would create some interesting(as in not good) results.dane_peterson wrote: »

Please note the drivers in both photos....
Left channel has appropriate MW6510/MW6511. Right channel has ALL MW6511s! It looks like they were a warranty replacement in 1987... meaning these speakers have not sounded right for 23 years!!!
So what do I do next?? Do we feel that this really can be the cause of my problems? -
FWIW, in an effort to "balance" the speakers, I moved one of the 6510s to the other side. The speakers are now distributed like this (0=6510, 1=6511):
0 1 1 0
1 1 1 1
The speakers are still feeling stronger on the left side. The sound does not seem to have improved at all. The balance is now my primary concern... even if I sit in front of the right speaker, the left still feels more prominent. Wondering if a driver is possibly blown?
geppy1 will hopefully be coming to my aid sometime this week. He's going to take them home and check 'em over, as he's more fluent on this than I am.
