Name that speaker!

Greetings!

So I'm still new to the A/V thing and looking to build a budget system. I already grabbed a Denon AVR 1500 plus a 5 disc changer for $75, now I need some speakers. It's mostly music I'm interested in, and have had many recommendations towards the 50/60/70 Monitor series. So, I saw this ad local to me and the seller has no idea the model of them. The picture is pretty crappy too: http://westernmass.craigslist.org/ele/1777969340.html

So, basically, I'm just wondering if anybody has any ideas as to what they could be. For $100 it seems there probably a good deal anyhow considering I've been leaning towards the 70's that go for about $170ish each on sale.

Thanks for any help, this seems like a helpful place once I do get a setup!

It sounds like a good deal, but I'd only be offering a mediocre guess. If I were you, I'd email the guy and ask for better pictures or ask if he could read the model number off the back. For 100 bucks, if they are really Polks and not some scam, they'll be a very good deal.

He said there is no model number listed. Kinda sketchy, but I've gotten plenty of deals off of craigslist before and it's usually people not knowing/caring about what they're selling. Hopefully I'll be able to get out of work at a decent time tomorrow and can go check them out. The more I think about it you really can't get much for $100 in the realm of good speakers.

You wouldn't believe what I could do with $100, and a little bit of time, regarding the speaker front. Would you believe $90 change on top of that?

    Don't RTA-8's look a little like those?

I'm not sure. George would know better than I. But they could be an RT16..perhaps? Maybe and RT12?

    I believe the RTA-8s have a d'apolito array....Mid/tweeter/mid-woofer?

In any case 100 a pair--if they're in good shape is probably 'good'!

Thanks for the help guys. To be honest when I got back I heard Newegg had new Monitor 70's for $150 + $3 shipping (minus a few bucks with bing cashback) I really couldn't resist since I've been told they're perfect for what I want (music and don't want to have to buy a sub). They came in yesterday, now I just need to figure out how to wire them to my receiver...
