Found a pair of Monitor4 cheap, BUT it appears one of the crossovers is bad. (Very low volume from tweet and woof). Am looking for a replacement crossover. Actually, I'll take anything that can come CLOSE to an exact replacement.

    Which tweeter do yours have?

I've got a box of 4, 4.1, 4.5 but nothing for the Peerless tweet left I don't think.
The ones I have left are for the small square tweeter type.

The tweeter housing is rectangular but there are 4 screws holding the tweeter in place that are situated in a square layout. On the back, there's a 8-ohms label, Made in USA label, and 5140783 is stamped in ink. Is this helpful in determining which tweeter I have?

Also, I'm assuming the problem is the crossover. What's the best way to test this?

    Thx for your help.

Take the tweeter and mid from the good speaker and install them in the "bad" speaker".

That's the Peerless. I've got Monitor 5 crossovers for Peerless and that's about all I've got left laying around I don't need.

Hi, HB27. Me being totally ignorant on these matters, how close is the Monitor 5 crossover to the one I need?

ben62670: I was hoping for some secret, elegant way to test the xover without having to open up both boxes. I think I'm getting lazy in my old age.

Thanks to both of you for your help.

Thanks to ben62670's suggestion I found the problem and it's not the xover. The woofer cone is completely frozen and the tweeter, though working, outputs only low volume. Luckily, I happen to have a woofer left over from working on the Monitor 5jr. So, I swapped that in and that's working.

So, I'm in need of a replacement tweeter. In my searches for one, what exactly am I looking for (description, part no., etc.).

    Thanks again.

Swap the tweeters, and welcome to Club Polk.

I swapped the tweeters (with the other Monitor4) and I've definitely got a bad tweeter.
