Static from speakers

I have a pair of 4 year old Polk Atrium 55's that I hung last year (I moved into a new house-had them hanging for 3 years in my previous house). They sounded great. As the weather has turned warmer in the Northeast, I've been outdoors more and using these outdoor speakers. All of a sudden the speakers are remitting a static sound, especially on heavy bass songs. No changes have been made to the set up. I used the proper outdoor speaker wire.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be causing this problem?

Try different cds does it still continue?
I know on some CDs, my speakers emit a static sound but that is just the recording because it is only on a few cds.
Report back to us if it continues after a couple cds strait.

Double check your connections, make sure no wire is touching each other at the posts. Make sure there are no rips in the casing of the wire where you've run it. Other than that, you may have blown one. Is the static comming from both or just one ?

You mentioned you recently moved? Could they have been damaged in shipping and now that it's warm, material contracting, that something is now loose or frayed apart?

If you can, maybe open up the speakers and see if anything inside is not right.

I would say, from what you said, something is wrong with the woofer driver or wiring to it.

Or it could simply be the wiring inside has finally come loose from the move. Of course check your amp and connections as mentioned above before you have to rip through the speaker cabinet.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the advice.

I mainly use my iPod when listening to music using these speakers. Happens on all different kinds of music.

I was away this weekend, but I have a feeling a rodent might have chewed through the wires. I get static from both.

One thing I forgot to mention is that the wires are hooked up to an outdoor volume control. Not sure that would influence anything, but wanted to mention.

I moved a year ago - speakers worked fine last year, so I dont think any damage occured from the move.
