I just got The Boondock Saints II from Netflix today, I'm hoping it's at least as good as the first.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

Let me know if it is, I'll pick it up. I just watched the Messenger a few minutes ago...it had one of those still moment ending where it kind of drops off mid plots... still was ok though...

Very intense movie, made me want to get into the film with a baseball bat and start swinging... haha.

It wasn't bad, but I wouldn't buy it. The soundtrack was a bit low on LFE, so I had to watch "War Inc." today to get an LFE fix.

You don't say what kind of movies you like. I like a lot of movies but it's difficult to recommend something without knowing what you like. Do you feel like you have seen everything and want to see something out of the ordinary? Want a recommendation for something sad but beautiful? action?

So, I want to know your favourite movies, or movies that you thought are just to damn good to keep hidden from other people, and they HAVE to see them.

Okay, I'll bite. Here are some suggestions that were not mainstream or are old and you may have missed them. Not in any particular order other than whatever came to mind.

    1. Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001). It's in French. Decent plot, good cinematography, good acting, good fight scenes. Great for all you Monica Belluci fans. She's devilish.

    2. In Bruges (2008). 2 hitmen screw up and are waiting in Bruges, Belgium. The first 20 minutes is excruciatingly slow which is brilliant because the film wants you to feel how bored one of them feels. For all you Colin Farrell haters, me included, he did a very good job. Great flick if you can get through the slow 1st part and moderate pace middle.

    3. Ping Pong Playa (2007). Uh, maybe you guys can't relate but as an asian immigrant, this movie was hilarious.

    4. 12 Angry Men (1957). I forced myself to watch this after hearing stellar reviews. Who would have thought a black and white movie about a jury deliberating would be so fascinating? Henry Fonda is phenominal.

    5. The Killing Fields (1984). Cambodia 1975-1979 sux. Heck, Vietnam after the US pullout sucked. Based on true stories. There are thousands of stories like this. My story was a lot easier. If you want to take a peak at what running for your life is like and the aftermath of trying to find friends and family...

    6. Blood Diamond (2006). Diamond smuggling in Africa. DiCaprio's performance is excellent.

    7. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988). Steve Martin and Michael Caine are 2 con artists working on the French Riviera. Funny movie with a great ending. I think this was a loose remake of "Bedtime Stories" (never saw it).

    8. Edmond (2005). William H. Macy is awesome. Basically, a guy in a midlife crisis loses it. Much darker than Michael Douglas in "Falling Down". You'll either enjoy or hate this movie.

    9. Rounders (1998). Matt Damon and Edward Norton. Poker players. Damon abandons poker after losing all his money but Norton just got out of prison and gets Damon back into the action.

    10. Spies Like Us (1985). Chevy Chase and Dan Aykroyd. Hilarious. Maybe not as funny if you didn't live through the Cold War.

    11. The Illusionist (2006). Edward Norton is excellent. Superbly made.

    12. The Red Violin (1998). Follows the life of a violin and the people around it. Sounds corny but very well made. You'll either love or hate this flick.

    13. The Professional (a.k.a. Leon or Leon the Professional) (1994). Jean Reno plays an assassin who helps out a girl who's family has been murdered. Stars a young Natalie Portman. Gary Oldman is great as a corrupt cop.

    14. The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999). Dark movie. Matt Damon impersonates and kills. Gorgeous scenaries. You'll love or hate it.

    15. Lord of War (2005). Nicolas Cage plays a gun smuggler who makes it big. Based on the story of 3 real smugglers (or so I read).

    16. The Count of Monte Cristo (2002). Based on the book by Alexandre Dumas (1844), same guy who wrote The Three Musketeers. Good acting and storyline.

    17. The Three Musketeers (1973) and The Four Musketeers (1974). Took two movies to complete the book by Alexandre Dumas (1844). Awesome performances by Michael York (D'Artagnon), Oliver Reed (Athos), Frank Finlay (Porthos), Richard Chamberlain (Aramis), Raquel Welch (Constance de Bonacieux), Faye Dunaway (Lady de Winter), and Charlton Heston (Cardinal Richelieu).

    18. The Tailor of Panama (2001). Pierce Brosnan plays a corrupt MI-6 spy who's been banished to assignment in Panama but meets up with a compulsive liar of a tailor. Brosnan exploits those lies and the aftermath is captivating. Makes the cynical side of me wonder if this is how war starts.

    19. The Matador (2005). Greg Kinnear plays a down on his luck businessman who runs into an assassin, Pierce Brosnan. Brosnan helps him get his mojo back but later needs Kinnear's help. You'll love or hate it.

That'll keep you busy for awhile.
