Using one channel of an amp to run a sub

I recently purchased a Parasound 2100 preamp which has internal sub gain and frequency controls. I also have an adcom 545 amp that I'm not using any longer. Is it a dumb idea to use it as a sub amp?

If as you say your pre has an integral crossover and gain controls thats a very good idea and a good amp.It should serve the purpose nicely. In fact that amp is likely bridgeable so you could turn it into a high powered mono bloc, with the caveat that the impedance of the woofer be kept reasonably high >6 ohms. What do you have planned for the sub?

I've got one of those old 545 Adcom amps also, but I don't think mine is bridgeable. I once thought about using it to run my center channel.

I don't believe the 545 is bridgeable. Correct me if I'm wrong. So for now I'm planning on using the speakers and boxes from two JBL PB10's that I have.2 CH
