Hey guys,

I'm new to this so I really need your guys' input to know if this is a really good deal cuz truth is...I don't even know what I'm really lookin at.

Check it: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/ele/1770554697.html

They look clean and all but first thing that throws me off is when I look at Monitor 12's from Polk's site and from the ad's link, they look different. So are the external crossovers on top a custom gig or what?

I'd love to jump on a good deal but don't even want to waste my time till I hear from you guys.

Thanks in advance.

I'm thinking C models. I've had early and B models and they were different on top. Small component board with twin inductors on top.

Thanks HB. I'm going to email them and hopefully see them this morning. Can you or anyone else help my comfort level in understanding why these have 2 less mid drivers than what's depicted on polk's site of the monitor 12's? Also, the external crossovers on top is not what is shown from polk's site so that is really just a point of confusion for a rooky like me.

Although new to this hobby, I'm not a moron. I've always loved music and love discovering new music. Never top 40's, less mainstream stuff; R&B, motown, blues, jazz, classic rock, early heavy metal, alternative, early hip hop, lil punk, lil classical, some lounge, some industrial, and other genres that are just fused together. Sorry for rambling....my point is I just started playing a lil electric guitar and all of a sudden music through my speakers started sounding different and I wanted to hear more which is what started all this. I can now tell what's lacking from bose satellite speakers. My old bookshelf system sounds dull. I went to high end store recently to hear what I've been missing so I now have some understanding of what multi-thousand dollar speakers sound like but as I told the sales guy, if the speakers are going to cost anywhere in the neighborhood of a harley, the harley will always win. I can never have too many motorcycles. Anyways, I'll listen to these monitor 12's and know if I like what I'm hearing. Do you recommend I physically check for anything??

I'll follow your lead, since you can see the pictures, and you're smarter. :p

Well you're both smarter than me in this area. I emailed the seller and hopefully I'll still have a chance at them.

Concealer, can you view the pics from here: http://s414.photobucket.com/albums/pp222/408NightRider/Polk%20Monitor%2012s/

    Nah, i'm at work. :(

You're looking at Monitor 12s, though. These are RTA12Cs, from what HB27 is saying. Completely different speaker. ;)

Wow....that is one tight **** network! LOL... I'm a network admin by trade. I didn't have any control over our Internet segment but I could just hear our users crying so loudly if jpegs weren't downloaded; it would never fly. Distance and application latency was our biggest issue.

Okay, so you're right (you're both right), they're RTA 12C's. I just googled that and the pictures match those from the CL ad. The guy off google called them RTA 12C Monitors. Couldn't even get any info off Polk by searching RTA. I called them Monitor 12's cuz that's what the seller called 'em and had a picture that showed the label "Monitor Series" along with the serial number. Don't know how they differ but I'll go with HB's original recommendation to jump on them if I can.

It's not really a matter of jpegs, it's the host. Websense > me. :p

I believe all the monitor and RTA series, possibly others as well, had the "Monitor series" labels on them. My old VS-25s had it as well, and they weren't TECHNICALLY part of what we all call the monitors.

If you consistently cannot download pics from craigslist and photobucket then I'd say that's an intentional filtering mechanism from your Internet proxy servers so that your company can maximize it's bandwidth. I was just suprsised it was tied down that tight but then I've only been familiar with the last company I worked for, for the last 7.5 yrs.

Okay, so now I understand a lil more of the Monitor series line. Thanks!
