I heard my first Klipsch speaker

I took a trip to Portland over the weekend and got back today, on my way I stopped off at an audioshop just to browse and see what they had.
They tons of stuff, they even had my amp, and my rocket 33s, along with tongs of other audioquest stuff, and some cables that cost way to much money..called transparent cables...I guess they make the cable seem transparent like its just your receiver and your speaker giving the best sound...like it should be. That's what the guy said.
Anyway, moving on. I tried out some speakers he had, and none really made me feel at home...I guess the Monitor 50s to me have a warmer sound that I like more than the others, then here it was.
I saw the Klipsch Synergy F-3. It was bigger than my monitors, it looked really nice as well, did not care to the fact it was only in black. The guy was selling a pair at a discount of 650. I looked online, that is practically the price of a new one!
I wish I had gotten them, but I did not safely have the money or the room in my car.
The guy had them hooked up to the NAD 375. The sound was unreal, he had this soundproof room where you could blast it as loud as you wanted.
They were so clear and it did not seem like you needed a subwoofer at all.
He had these ear muffs for people like me that didn't want to hurt your hearing I guess they muffle out like 50dbs or something like that. Well, I turned it up as loud as I could handle and the guy said I barley made it past 1/2 on the dial. I was like....woah.
They have something like a 99db sensitivity rating I think is what he told me...but what a set up. I was really stunned. All in all, I think it was fun actually going into my first audioshop and knowing somewhat what I was doing.

Hey PC,
If you don't mind me asking what Audio shop was that? I don't know of any in the Portland, Me. since Tweeter closed up shop. Is this new or has it been around for a while.
Also, it sounds like you 'like' horns? Remember that NAD could make a LOT of speakers sound 'pretty' darned good along with whatever the source was and the cabling.
If you think a pair of cheap Synergies sound good you should listen to a pair of ReferenceB 81s--the best of that lot. As for me, I'm not a horn man. As you know the Klipsch benefit from their incedible sensitivity due to the horn design. They will play louder than most comparable speakers. But that's a subjective call as to whether that's 'better' or not!
Enjoy...and please do drop me a name...Portland is not that far from me and I get there often enough. I'd like to check that place out when I return to the U.S, that is?
Thanks...

I assumed it was in Portland, I am not sure though. I don't know much of that area, portland is a good 6 hours away from me, I can't tell you the exact place, but I do know it was in that area...at least I think it was.
As for the horn, yeah...I guess that would be why my Pio cs77s were so high rated on the sensitivity scale...they have a horn tweeter.
Well, compared to the silk the horn kind of cuts my ears....like the sound is just to much. I mean to me anyway.
You don't live far from there? Where do you live...?
I can ask my father hes the one that was driving when he saw speakers in the window thats why we walked in, I'll ask him if he caught the name of the place.Receiver

I live in central Maine, not far from the Capital--Augusta! It sounds like you are a lot farther North?
Thanks!

I live around 4 hours from Augusta, I live in Aroostook County, closer to Canada. When I was a kid I used to bike to Canada and back. I can't do that anymore though....I'd be arrested hah.
My dad said he doesn't know the name of it, he said it was more of an impulse stop, and he feel ashamed that he can't remember where it was because he used to the head supervisor for a rather large roofing company and traveled all over Maine.
Yeah my winters are cold very cold, and my summers are actually warmer than usual. I don't know if its that way for you guys, I know though it has been raining a lot latley.Receiver

No problem. I've heard of your county and been across the border as well. As for the weather? I'm in China so I wouldn't know. We're expecting 90s this weekend in Beijing.
And summers 'here' can get quite hot. I like Maine summers better.
I'm sure I can track down the place when I get back. Stay COOL!
And thanks again.

I'm glad you liked the Klipschs as they are neat horn speakers. However, I feel that REAL Klipschs have horn mids as well as highs. My Klipschs sound their best with tubes as it tames them a bit, but that might also be subjective. If you get a chance, check out some of the vintage and three-way designs as they are some of the most clear and detailed speakers I have heard.

Yeah, I mean I can't take a stab at Klipsch for hearing just one speaker, but man did those Perice my ears. I mean the bass was good, very punchy and such, but some of the highs were like WOAH! calm down there!
It did bring back memories of my old pio speakers. I really should try to repair them.
Oh well, maybe when time grows older and I have more money to spend I will pick up a pair of klipschs.Receiver

Luckily, many Klipsch speakers can be had for relatively cheap.

I wish, unfortunately I love far away from them.
Otherwise I would take a look. For those prices...yeah, absolutely.Receiver

Why are you in China?
I'm working at the Chinese Academy of Sciences for the year..on sabbatical from my work back home. Wife doing research on a Fulbright Grant (U.S. State Dept.), my daughter enrolled at the International School at Qinghua (Tsinghua) University here.
