That's right. After 2 hardworking faithful years, my company let me go over very questionable terms today. I don't feel it's necessary to give details, but needless to say I'm pretty upset over it.

To make it worse, I'm ineligible for unemployment. Time to start checking the classifieds!!

Really sorry to hear that....and not to get UE is something Id be upset over especially after being let go. Is there any way you can fight for UE benefits?.......what field are you looking for a job in?

    Good luck with your search........

I was at my last job for 9 years, Then they found out they could get huge tax breaks for hiring handicap workers. Needless to say the first people placed on the chopping block was the most Senior to find out they would loose there jobs on questionable terms.
Good thing for us was the state of Illinois decided that most of the ones that was let go was able to receive unemployment benefits after the Company fought it. Good luck man!

It's my own fault. I was overpaid previously, and have not repaid that debt yet. Additionally, the powers that be at my job said they'd attempt to fight unemployment. Crooks is what they're are. It's infuriating.

As for the field I'm looking, probably going to have to be sales. No college degree, but I've been very successful in my most recent positions in both sales and management.

LoL! After I was let go that was my first thoughts. But I looked at it like this "What comes around, Go's around" and guess what? It did. A few of the supervisors that was all company and "thought the people that was making the company money were nothing more then overpaid slaves" got let go also.

Now I just no longer shop there and all my company shirts that was given to us have a P*SS ON logo (over the Company logo) on them and when people ask what thats all about I let them know. :)

sorry you got let go. i don't know myself what I would do or where I would turn if that happen to me..

but I guess in today's unstable work market, anyone can be let go at any time it seems.

I hope something turns up for you that you enjoy.

I would still at least apply and give it a shoot...MN UE has become a bit more employee friendly in giving out benefits...certainly worth a shot....

absolutely, you can apply and try.. there is certainly no harm in trying to claim worst that can happen is they say no, even if you appeal they may even be able garnish part of your UE to pay back the over pay and at least you get some money who knows...

It takes a LOT in most states to be denied unemployment benefits. Most states require substantial proof from an employer and then it has to be more than petty theft, or embezzlement, serious sexual misconduct, violence, selling trade secrets, etc, etc. Most places if they want to be dicks will fight it; but most don;t have the grounds and UI will simply deny their claim to not pay UI.

So get you ducks in a row, your side of the story and apply for UI ASAP, most states it can be done on-line.

Good luck..............been through it before and once the anger and resentment passes you'll feel better, but that takes time.

Dane - with the mark up they have in jewelry, they could easily afford to have the state pay you unemployment. Cheap fux. Do you know any attorney's? Have an attorney call looking to see who his attorney is, as you need to know who to have all correspondence with regarding your unemployment benefits. this may shake him up

Thanks everyone for the input... GREATLY appreciated. Many ex-colleagues of mine are pretty pissed at how they handled this.

I will apply for Unemployment in the morning, and I have an interview for a Home A/V company at noon. I'm sure everything will work out in the end. Sure would like to stick it to them for what they did, though!

I'm sure this is a not so possible solution. But with all your background and experience...you might want to consider starting up your 'own' business. Something like import/export. My sister-in-law is making a killing buying accessories here in China and selling in Chicago for example? Just a thought.

Hang in there something will come up!

I mentioned Subaru as a place to look for a sales job. Any car driving through a flash flood is not going to work very well.

Well, looks like UI won't be necessary afterall.

I already have a job offer, and two more interviews lined up for tomorrow.

I really like the place I've been offered a position... just going to shop around to give me a better bargaining chip if I need to discuss compensation.
