I've watched this movie all the way through once, I think. I've demoed the DTS track on the DVD countless times. I don't think there's been another release that makes my concrete slab floor emulate the pod emergence scene more realistically. There are some other good LFE scenes throughout the disk, unfortunately, I'll probably never skip ahead to hear them. I know I won't watch the entire movie again. I'm sure the BD will have some audio tweaks, but I can't imagine the PQ will be much of an attraction with the washed out, grainy film style Speilburg used. Sure did mix that DTS mix hot though :D. I've gotten 115db + peaks at reference with some headroom to spare.

Be careful...if you don't have enough sub, the subsonics at high volume will bottom out the driver. This one should have a warning label.

Thank God my SVS has a 15Hz filter in place... but the Buttkicker's good down to 9Hz, so BRING IT ON!

And Ron, considering how amazing Minority Report and Saving Private Ryan look on Blu-ray, I'm looking forward to seeing WotW in all its grainy glory.

Edit: even though the movie is pretty old, spoilers ahead

A+ bass, especially during the first pod scene. And I really did enjoy the movie up until they hide in the basement with Tim Robbins, then the movie completely falls apart after that. First, Tom cruise has to murder Robbins cause Robbins thinks he's commando, fine. Tom Cruise then becomes commando by destroying a pod with a few grenades..... uhh. Then the damn son somehow survives and makes it there before them.... What? Oh yeah, had to have the father son moment at the end. How cute.

Sorry, as you can tell the ending really irked me:p;)

I know I remember the DVD having some hellacious bass... but man, the Blu-ray? BEST LFE OF ANY BLU-RAY I OWN. I'm so glad they didn't filter this at 25Hz the way they have with a lot of DTS-MA tracks, because my Buttkicker got a serious workout. Even at -17 from reference, it felt like the room was going to shake apart.

I don't care what anyone says; Spielberg's sci-fi flicks are my favorites of his entire catalog, and I hope they bring out A.I. next. Then give me Schindler's List and Munich, and I'll be happy.

This is a great movie to get a good dose of really low bass. That's my favorite part of the whole movie. I love the part when the tripods come busting out from underground! Too bad I don't have a nice sub to really do it justice. My Tyler Acoustic bass modules cut off at like 30-40hz or something. Time for a sub :)

Yeah, I'm gonna watch it again this weekend. Couldn't crank it past -17dB from reference tonight, but it sounded fantastic.

Plus, I forgot how great the score is in that movie. It really does have some outstanding music amidst all the chaos.

Played the same clips on BD and the DTS SD version and the SD version is better with bass. Both versions played at with the same settings. It is a waste of $$$ to get the BD version.

I'd say the improvement in the score and in the video makes it worth a purchase, but point taken. Even with the unique Spielberg/Kaminski skip-bleached visual style, the BD is a vast improvement over the DVD for video.

Someone posted the waterfalls over on AVS. Looks like the LFE is all there. Some loud stuff in the 10hz region with most of the energy right around 20hz. I don't doubt Bill's claim regarding the SD DTS track being better. The DTS mix on that DVD was notoriously hot...about 7-8dbs louder than the DD track, which had the same content just not as loud. Sounds like the BD is just a tad less hot than the DTS DVD.

I really liked that movie and bought it. However the video portion was horrible. It looked washed out. Every other regular DVD I play on my HT rig, the picture is awesome.

So, I watched this today on blu ray.

The sound was good on DTS, and I'm pretty sure my sub made sounds it's never made before, but it's still War of the Worlds... same story, etc.....I skipped past the part with Tim Robbins, just to get through to the end quicker.

I'm glad I watched it on blu ray, but it's nothing I'll buy.
