I never eat plain old enriched flour white bread, except . . . hot dog buns.

A hot dog or bratwurst on wheat just seems wrong.

Then I got to thinking, I've been to a lot of ballparks across the US and I don't ever remember a hot dog or brat served on anything but a white bread bun.

Am I missing something?

The only thing two things white bread is good for are buns and
soldering water pipes(wonder bread to the rescue!).

In general... I did not see the hot dog part but I bet in might work for certain kinds of sausage. It works well for patty melts, which is basically a burger anyway.

whole wheat is just a healthier option, primarily more fiber. My gastro dr told me to stick to whole wheat over white and I have been in better shape for it

All depends. The wife unit is a great baker, so I always have home-made bread in the freezer. I have never had home-made wheat or other. I like my bread "heavy". This fluffy stuff like Wonder Bread...yuck. There are a few store brands that are ok...Brownberry is a heavier bread and is pretty good with their wheat breads.

When you live amongst the Amish bakeries and have for almost 50 yrs...."store bought" bread is, well,...yucky.

Being diabetic I eat whole grain, whole wheat bread. I even use it for hot dogs, hamburgers and any other type sammich. I love potato bread but can only eat it on occassion. Whole wheat is better for you and it doesn't spike your blood sugar.

If you buy the dollar store brand of split top very soft whole grain, whole wheat bread it is delicious. I'm not fond of the wheat breads that taste like you are eating twigs or chewing on sawdust.

I also love fresh baked Italian wheat bread.

Rye or any of the grain breads are great too.

Nothing beats freshly baked caraway rye for sammies and my beloved patty melts...........

one of the benefits of living with a Exec pastry chef.. freshly baked breads and treats....the downside is getting on the scale each week ;)

Not a big fan of hotdog or hamburger buns in general.....too much bread. Usually Natures Own Honey Wheat for most everything, the kids like it too which is a plus.

I'm happy we've got the kids to eat whole wheat or rye. My wife also has a Bosch Bread-mill that grinds the grain and kneads the dough and we literally buy 50lb bags of grain from an Amish store not too far south of here.

That homemade bread weighs at least 3 times what store-bought bread weighs and is a meal in itself. It makes absolutely the best toast on earth.

But . . . so far I still think hot dogs are best on those nasty old white-bread buns.

I am going to seek out the whole wheat hot dog buns Demi mentioned above and give them a try.

That's a great and interesting idea!

It might work best in winter though, because there are absolutely no preservatives in this wonderful stuff and the shelf-life can be quite short in warm humid conditions.

I'd hate to send out a loaf of bread and have a warm green Chia Pet arrive! :D

I actually prefer Mrs. Baird's Whole Grain White bread for everyday sandwiches and whatnot. For burgers and dogs, if you can make a good enough dog or burger the bun is almost irrelevant. I still prefer white bread, but I have had wheat and it was still delicious.

What I could really go for is some homemade bread. I may just have to get the starter recipe from my mom and bake a few loaves. Dang-it, now I'm really hungry and I just ate lunch.
I know just enough to be dangerous, but don't tell my wife, she thinks I'm a genius. :D
