Polk vs. Polk

Here is a question for debate. I am in the midst of setting up my first home theater system.

I would like to know what would make for the BEST set-up between these two speakers for a front channel in a 5.1 system- the Monitor 50's or the TSi 300's? Which is a better overall sounding speaker?

What speakers would complement the Monitor 50's in a 5.1 system?

I already have the TSi 300's and CS10. I just saw the monitor 50's on Amazon for $100 a piece. Seemed like a really good price. Just a little less than what I got my 300's for ($125, each through B.B. new!) Did I make the right choice with the OWM 3's for my rear channel? Does anyone have any personal listening experience with the OWM 3's in a similar set-up? They are supposed to match up well with the TSi series. I went with those instead of the TSi 100's for the rear channel mainly because they would take up less space and would be easier to mount on the wall and be more versatile. Any thoughts?

You definitely made the right choice. Unless you really want to upgrade your rear, you should stick with what you presently own.

Thanks technokid. I did alot of research and tried to choose the best I could for the size room the gear will be used in. I have only heard the 300's in store, and they sounded amazing, and would only assume they will sound better at home. I am guessing the only upgrade for the rears would be the 100's because they match everything else, but I just felt they would be a little too clunky for the rear channel. I also have a question posted in another forum on this site as to the best sub cable (for a PSW 110) and speaker wires (brand, gauge for each channel?) that would suit my application. Any thoughts?

Yes, I realized your reasonning behind the OWM 3 and therefore the reason I didn't bother proposing the TSi 100. Sometime you have to compromise to match you room size. decor etc, This is priorities you have to set your self.

As far as cable, I am not the type that believes in spending big $$$ for fancy cables. I wouldn't use $ store cable but will never pay hundreds for cables. My .02? Acquire some Blue Jeans or monoprice cables. Decent pricing decent cables. At this point, I'd stay away from Mono price because of their latest credit cards security problems. You can also buy decent kits (IE: wire logic has decent cables in both quality and looks) for ICs. As far as speaker wire gage, I feel you should go for 14 gage (I feel 12 & 10 gage are mainly for car crazy set-ups not counting the fact that they sometime are hard to fit in the binding post).

Getting the Sound You Heard at the Store
Just like video, you must invest in quality cables for your receiver, components and speakers. Digital Coax and Toslink (Fiber Optic) are the only types of audio cables that can deliver digital, multi-channel surround sound. Don’t forget to choose a high quality speaker cable to maintain the performance throughout. Look for audio cables featuring solid core center conductors.

    Cheers!
