Sr5250 Tweeter placement

I'm getting ready to mount my tweets from my sr5250's and I can't decide between putting them down in the kicks close to the mids, or up on the dash(which is only about 2 inches deep). One part of me says in the kicks b/c I my headunit has no TA feature, and I think people would be less likely to want to steal them, but another part tells me to mount them on the dash to avoid the low stage height from the kicks, but they're much more noticeable up there, making them more likely to be stolen, and about 18" from the mids. I can play with the phase, but that's about as far as I think i'll be able to tweak things. Help me decide guys, I'm stuck

They'll be running passive in a 72 beetle

If you have no time alignment or EQ then Id go with the kick panels. True the A pillars would help pull the stage up some but without processing it wont make that much of a difference and youll get better tonality with the tweeter right next to the mid.

    Here's my hu, the DEH-P600UB: http://pioneerusa.com/PUSA/Support/CarAudioVideo/In-Dash/CD-Players/DEH-P600UB?tab=B

I haven't connected everything yet, but my guess is you're right, I won't have much opportunity for tweaking, so the kicks probably do make more sense. Thanks guys

^^ on the kicks for reasons already explained. Play around with the angles of the tweets.

Sounds like the kicks would be best for your situation. I think we need some more pics of the Beetle; looks very nice from that picture!

Why kicks!? How do you get the "soundstage" up high with the midwoofers AND tweeters that low? I say DASH :p

Because if you dont have the processing power like time alignment and decent EQ'ing, separating your tweeters can do more harm than good. Yeah it may bring your stage up some but at the expense of sound quality. Keeping them in the kicks is a great spot. All 4 drivers are now on axis and at a good distance from the listener. Yeah the edges of the stage will droop below the dash some but it will sound much better overall.

Remember, this goes for mids and tweets in the kicks. Mids in crappy door locations could be different.

I'm only 5'3", so the stage doesn't have to be that high. haha :p
I'm going to go with putting both in the kicks, mostly b/c of what MacLeod and others said, plus it looks more stock that way, and less likely to be stolen I think. I appreciate everyone's input

There are a few pics after it had been painted here, but I need to do some uploading and updating on the page: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3270146

And my stereo build log is here if anyone's interested. There should be some updates this weekend if all goes well. The amp rack is 75% done. http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/diyma-build-logs/77920-1972-vw-super-beetle-install.html

I can see that. I've heard that it's better the closer the mids and tweets gets to eachother. :)
