We went to Windstar Casino in Oklahoma (exit 1, border of TX) last night to see Robert Cray. HE was great and played for an hour but I did not realize he was not the headliner.
It was Buddy Guy that was the headliner. I had heard of Buddy but none of his music. What a great entertainer. He went down into the crowd. Fantastic musician and interacts with the crowd very well.
Picked up a autographed Robert Cray album.
It was a great time.
The casino has a pretty good hotel but the food was just OK. We spent $1 playing penny slots and won 11 cents.
great drinks ! Still feel rough.

j/k! that's awesome! i've seen buddy like 6 times...always great:cool:
cray i've never seen, but would love too.. -
No they play separately. Cray was the reason I went but both were great.
Just found out BB King will play up the road about 6 miles on Aug 29th so we have seats middle of the stage row 5 from the front.
Thats 3 concerts we will see this summer, the other one is the Eagles.
We did not tell our kids we would be gone overnight so there would be no party planning going on. They called at 10:30 this morning concerned.;)Speakers: SDA-1C (most all the goodies)

back when jimi said that buddy was the greatest guitarist, buddy was a wildman..he used to jump 10 feet off his speaker columns while soloing! i've looked for video, with no luck...what i've found though, shows he was at the forefront of 'cool'.. -

Can't wait! GF and I have tickets to see BB King,Buddy Guy and Al Green at Ironstone Vineyards on August 20th.
She wanted to see another act but we decided due to their age we should see them in person now.
I Highly reccomend "Buddy's Baddest, The Best of Buddy Guy" CD. It's fantastic -
Got to see Robert Cray @ Antone's just a few days ago........excellent show ... he played for about 2 1/2 hours.....
Go see Buddy anytime he comes around.... he always puts on a great performance -
Saw BB King and Buddy Guy lastnight at the AllenEventCenter.
Buddy Guy put on a great show. He connects with the audience and has fun. It was great to see such a legand in blues as BB king. He played 3 or 4 songs but pretty much talked about his band and his life. Overall a great time.Speakers: SDA-1C (most all the goodies)

Buddy Guy is probably one of the most underated blues players around. So many have copied from him including Stevie Ray Vaughn. Love SRV but he was copied a lot from Buddy Guy. I watched a documentary on Buddy Guy and he was dirt poor growing up, the kind of dirt poor where he would go days without a meal sometimes.
He is among my favorite blues players. Do yourself a favor and pick up Sweet Tea.

I think not.
Guy has won five Grammy Awards both for his work on his electric and acoustic guitars, and for contemporary and traditional forms of blues music. In 2003, he was awarded the National Medal of Arts. This medal is awarded by the President to those who have made extraordinary contributions to the creation, growth and support in the arts in the United States. Guy has also been nominated 41 times and has won 28 W.C. Handy Awards (more than any other artist has received), Billboard magazine's The Century Award (Guy was its second recipient) for distinguished artistic achievement, and the title of Greatest Living Electric Blues Guitarist. He has also won the Blues Foundation's Lifetime Achievement award.
In 2008, Buddy Guy was inducted into The Louisiana Music Hall of Fame while performing at Texas Club in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Guy was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 14, 2005 by Eric Clapton and B.B. King. Clapton recalled seeing Guy perform in Londons Marquee Club in 1965, impressing him with his technique, his looks, and his charismatic showmanship. He remembered seeing Guy pick the guitar with his teeth and play it over his headtwo tricks that later influenced Jimi Hendrix(pretty heady stuff).
Stevie Ray Vaughan once declared that Buddy Guy "plays from a place that I've never heard anyone play." Vaughan continued:Buddy can go from one end of the spectrum to another. He can play quieter than anybody I've ever heard, or wilder and louder than anybody I've ever heard. I play pretty loud a lot of times, but Buddy's tones are incredible he pulls such emotion out of so little volume. Buddy just has this cool feel to everything he does. And when he sings, it's just compounded. Girls fall over and sweat and die! Every once in a while I get the chance to play with Buddy, and he gets me every time, because we could try to go to Mars on guitars but then he'll start singing, sing a couple of lines, and then stick the mike in front of me! What are you gonna do? What is a person gonna do?! Vaughan stated that, "Without Buddy Guy, there would be no Stevie Ray Vaughan."If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money. -
I knew ya'll knew something about Polk and now I know ya'll know something about the blues.

Check out Buddy Guy, along with Eric Johnson, Steve Vai (this year), Kenny Wayne Shepard, Living Color (Vernon Reid, no?), and so many more, the next three months or so, on the "Experience Hendrix" concert tour. All the living ex-members of Band of Gypsies and The Jimi Hendrix Experience. I saw them last year at Hampton NH, and hope to see them again this year in Boston (alas, one fewer in number).

I don't believe it was released on LP but who knows, Amazon doesn't list it but perhaps some other digging on the internet.

My point was, that despite all the accolades, most people either know him in passing (as in have heard his name, not necessarily his music) or not at all. My comment wasn't to be taken "literally" as in no one in his profession valued him or his contirbution, but the common person who buys music doesn't own a single thing by him.
I also was aware of SRV's admiration of Buddy Guy and the fact he idolized him. My comment about SRV more came from someone recently who hadn't really heard or seen much Buddy Guy material and remarked how much SRV copied him.

H9, same boat here. I had heard his name and as I think I stated above I thought Buddy Guy was the opening act and Cray was the headliner. Needless to say I stand corrected.
I love Robert's music but Buddy Guy is another level up.Speakers: SDA-1C (most all the goodies)

buddy guy sucks! ha! j/k!:p
i saw him the year he turned 70. also, abt a half a dozen times, as well.
he is at 70+, the epitome of a bad-****! he was singing/playing hoochie coochie man with more vigor and sexual energy, than anyone except maybe muddy waters. and buddy is very aware of that fact. the fact that audience members are truly witnessing a bluesman! they are hearing blues without boundaries..his singing is toe-curling as well!
very cool when he tones down so quiet, all you can hear is the amps buzzing away. then, without prediction, he wails, either vocally or with his axe. then, you hold on for another ride.:D
i love BG..i wish him many more years of good health and success;)
