The local ad for Fry's has the SR5250's on sale for $250, I picked up a pair today. I noticed they had a red price tag which means they are on clearance. I went to the Plano store and they only had one.

Thats definitely a steal. $800 speakers that are as good as any $1100 speaker but for only $250.

Yeah I was pretty excited when I saw the ad yesterday. I been to two Fry's and they only had one on the shelf at each one. I'm sure they'll sell them all this week. Unfortunately they are clearing them out so they most likely won't get anymore in stock.

The pricing between the website and the store is weird. They don't price match at the store, but if there is ever a better deal on the site you can purchase it online and do store pickup and get it for that price. That's what I did for my ram.

That's what the MM's sell for, out here. The polk guy here was sitting on six pairs, when I bought mine. That's a lot, considering he'd sold five sets in the last three years. Paid full $ msrp.

Yeah, 250 is a steal for sure. I'm sure he's discounting now. However, while it would've been smart to wait six months and graduate to the sr's at a discount; its really tough to grudge them the msrp. That's just the way I feel about them.

Sad to see them go. Sadder for the fact that they didn't get their due.

WoW that's a crazy deal. So 6500's been out of stock for a while. At this rate 5250's will become scarce as well. Get em while you can. You may even wish to consider having a pair as backup or for another ride of yours. I'd do that but i already got to many speakers as it is.

I don't get it though. You would think that since the money was all going to the same place that it wouldn't matter where you bought it.

Maybe its because they have to pay a higher wholesale price for their in-store stock or transportation fees or something.

If the B&M and the online ends are separate profit centres, then a differential pricing policy is fine. Online costs are lower so you can offer higher discounting, while maintaining the same profit margin as the B&M operation.

B&M operational costs of course are much higher. Same margin X higher volumes = higher profits. That may be the explanation.

I had a Washington Mutual bank account in California. Later i had to work in Washington for 6 months. I could not even cash nor deposit my pay check there. They were the same company. But they were not affiliated. It was extremely frustrating. I found out they actually had like 4 zones covering the US. You leave your zone you're f%$ked. Luckily i had my bro with me and he was able to cash my paychecks at wells fargo. Needless to say i switched to wells fargo.

    So it ain't just Fry's.

Distribution would follow a hub and spoke model. If the footprint is large enough, there's probably a Frys within 20 miles of most of you'll.

So cause the online operation can give better discounts (this though is liquidation), You get a great deal and you order online. Now imagine if you could pick it up within an hour of ordering i/o waiting for 2-3 days. Yeah everyone would drive the 20 miles. No one has to pay courier charges.

With the next replenishment order for this spoke, the hub would ship out one set free of transport costs. The transport costs would be debited to the online side.

Of course you'd walk in to the store to pick up your order and see the same thing at a higher price and feel you got a great deal. Which you did. :)

If you don't have a Frys close to you and you want to buy a pair, talk to either Skip / KMF and see if they can help snag a pair for you. Once you have settled the payments etc, even with shipping charges from TX to NY, you'd still bring them home under $ 300.

The sr's are discontinued and this sale looks like a liquidation. So it may be your last chance to grab a pair at great price. :)

Does Polk have something in the works to replace the SR's, or are they going to fall back on just the db and MM series?

Come to think of it, there has been no 'official' word on the sr's from the folks at Polk. I don't recall seeing anything on the forum. The sr series is history but perhaps someone in the know would care to clarify if a replacement is in the pipeline. Seems unlikely though. Maybe car audio is no longer a focus area for Polk.

But yeah an offical word would help.........:)

Yeah, i know, not the point thou. For the most part we are talking about Polk not making SRs anymore and those stores who sold them already wount not be ordering any new sets simply cuz they don't really exist anymore.

btw, Dskip, how far are you from your local Fry's? Mind driving down, picking up a set and ship it to me?? All expences will be payed for offcourse :)
