With the wife going to school and my recent surgeries, money has been tight lately and several bills are behind a couple months with no way to catch up for at least a couple more months.

If someone could take a look at my sig and give me your opinion of what I could sell it for (either as a package, or piece-meal), I would really appreciate it.

Oh, i'll be keeping the tv and blu-ray player.

+1... I hope things get better quickly, as it will cost far more to replace your rig than you could ever hope to get by selling it.

    Sorry to hear that.
Looks like your TV was a recent expensive purchase of over $2000.
Think about downscaling to something more affordable?

Yeah, that was one of those "Life is going great, and taxes are here!" purchases. Then things went downhill real quick.

No, we bought it back in February.

Also, I have no clue how to go about packaging/shipping items as large as my RTi10's and DSWpro 600.

Man I remember when Magnolia HiFi used to be great.....

So this what you'll most likely get. While it's great stuff, the used market is brutal on mid tier HT gear. Plus finding local folks is hard and shipping is a nightmare.

    Here is my shipping bible:
For every pound you ship it is going to cost approx $1.50 for shipping plus boxes and packaging to get it there SAFELY. Have u seen the price of bubble wrap these days alone? Heck I use cheap Walmart pillows at $3 each for stuffing, cheap and MUCH better.

Estimate for every 5 lbs of eqipment you'll spend approx 1 hour of total work including cleaning, pics, posting, finding specs, determining sale price, communication, getting payment, getting adress, finding boxes packing material, tape and quotes. then boxing packing taping transporting dropping off getting tracking worrying and issues from buyers, etc.

    Fronts: RTi10's $200-300
    Center: CSi3 $35-50
    Surrounds: FXi4 $125-175
    Sub: DSW Pro 600 $125-200
    Receiver: Onkyo 605 $150-225

Total $635 to $950 pieced out or maybe $750 as a system.

It's brutal out there and while Onkyo are popular new, used they go downhill.

The hot ticket item is your LED 55" TV. LED is all the rage and while the rage is on, SELL! Heck i'd buy your LED right now if I could.

All your other gear, when you it again will be more expensive than what you sell it for, but LED WILL come down in price aalot over the next years. Ride rage, sell it high and then buy it again later for low.

Hmmm... maybe you can get more for the DSW maybe more like $300-$375.

Using my formula, to post a listing and ship it you'll spend:
$78 for shipping, boxes and packaging and tape
approx 11 hours totaled work time from unplugging it to clean and pics all the way to buyer saying "thanks for a good deal" transaction end email.

Yeah, you're right. The hard part about selling these is that I'm going to have to make the buyer pay for shipping, since I can't afford it.

Ok, I lied. The hard part about selling these is having to live with my TV's speakers for a couple years.

To those who have already expressed interest, i'll be dropping you a PM in the coming days/week. For everyone else, i'll be putting an ad up in the FM soon.

Thanks for all the advice and words gents.

I would try CL also and avoid shipping expenses. You might be surprised. However, my other recommendation is to look around and see what else you might be able to cut back on. Cable? Cell phones? High speed internet? Yeah, dial-up might suck, but you'd still be able to connect to CP pretty good. Good luck with your situation. :) I hope you figure it out. Let us know if you need any other advice.

Yeah, already ditched cable and dropped to a much lower internet. Hopefully we'll be able to move soon and stop having to pay water & light as well as gas. Our gas bill was almost $200 last winter.

    Ryan,
Though my situation isn't nearly as dire, I'm doing a bit of downscaling too... wife is returning to school in the fall and need to get some finances sorted out first.

I started with my media... (see "Blurays!" in the FS forum) These will yield you a reasonable return and are easy to both ship and replace later on. I've already gotten about $300 from selling just under 30 films.

Another option, which can be just as fun as what you have now (though not nearly as fiscally responsible as selling altogether) is getting older gear and switching to 2-channel. This is what I resorted to two years ago from my 5.1 LSi rig. It can easily be as enjoyable, but cost much less. Plus, vintage Polks are a lot of fun to tinker with...
