So, I was cleaning out my basement because the previous owner didn't care to do it before he left. I was digging around and found a trunk. In it was an original Nintendo, the grey one with the monster slot. He had the gun for duck hunt and then the paddle to play mario.
Next to it was a nintendo 64, and he had a few games, I picked up the kurby one. Wow, I felt like I was 10 years old again. Heh.
Any of you guys still have one of these?
What kinds of memories do they hold for you?

Yeah, I was just thinking about how much the graphics and the sound has improved since then. I mean, really.
It was kind of all blocky and such compared to like you COD or blu-rays.
I played Spyro for ps1 the other day because I found it behind my coach at my dads house, yep, it looked like he was blowing fire chunks...I don't remember it looking that bad at all...like ever.

I still have my Super Nintendo and play it on an almost daily basis (Teris 2 against my wife).

For some reason, I've never been very interested in any of the newer systems, although I own a couple of them. I guess I just like the simplicity of the older games.

For the past couple of months, my wife has been selling my old N64 games on ebay and amazon. It pains me, but her opinion is that if I haven't played in 10 years, I shouldn't own it anymore.

Ah, thats awful man. I'm sorry to hear that she's selling them. That's how my wife is. She says if we arn't using it now, we probably won't use it ever...and then it's gone when I get home from work. That's why I use my stereo everyday :P

If you don't want those man, check out prices on Ebay for those originals.

I read somewhere that a woman sold her son's original Nintendo on Ebay and it went for $2k.

Yeah, it's the same sort of thing. Her point of view is that I'll never play them again, so why keep them. Believe it or not, she GAVE AWAY my mint N64 console to Goodwill. I had it packed in the original box and everything. Not that it could have been sold for much, but she didn't need to give it away. . . and she wasn't even mad at me!

    Wow, 2k?
    Damn. That's like... a set of 9s...
I dunno my luck I'd get the bid for like $1 and no one else would take it.
I mean it has 2 controllers, the duck hunt gun (Which by the way you can make into a really nasty laser,we did it with one of them for a school project) I also have the real nintendo, as well, as the NES one and the 64...maybe sell them as a bundle?
    I should be like this.
Do you have a Wii? Want the gaming systems that started it all?
Well now is your chance act now for a piece of gaming history!

And the console with a couple games. All work 100%
But yeah, my wife does stuff like that all the time but yet, she has like 10 pairs of shoes that she doesn't even wear...we all know where I'd be if I took those to a good will.
Just got done level 9 on kurby haha. It's so much different than like your ps3...its simple and you can multitask while your doing it.

I have a NES/SNES/N64 and I am planning to build a MAME machine this year (old school with the glasstop and controllers on both ends). My kids love the SNES Mario games. Mario Kart on any system is awesome and the kids love that as well.

N64 and the original Nintendo were part of lots of fun memories for me. N64 in college (Mario Kart and 007 Bond were the two most popular) and Zelda, Kung Foo, Contra, etc. on the original. Ahh ... good times!

I still have a Nintendo, SNES, N64, Playstation and PS one. I regret selling my orignial Atari 2600 and all the games in a yard sale many years ago. I did buy the Atari Flashback a when it came out 4 or 5 years ago...and while it is cool...it just isn't the same.

Zelda, yep I had the gold one a long time ago, it was limited edition. Got quite a lot of money at a card shop that sells games as well. I think I bought it at a yard sale, brought it in after I bought, swapped for the original and got like $100 from the shop. I was like OOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH MMMMMMYYYYYYYY
Not quite like that kid...he's was just like woah...Kind of like when I got my Gameboy Color when I was like 7....heh.

I've still got my Super Nintendo and my Sega Genesis. They both get played a LOT more than my Xbox too. That was when video games were made to simply be fun, rather than being as realistic and complicated as possible.

Even still though, I probably only play my SNES and Genesis for a total of about an hour a month or so.

Games are still very much made to be fun and most aren't that complicated.

Great graphics doesn't always mean a great game by any stretch, but there is nothing wrong with a game that plays well that is both visually and aurally stunning. I prefer that over crappy graphics and sound.

Games are way better now than they have ever been, but that's not to say I don't still appreciate the classics, because I do.

Agreed, this is more about nostalgia...not the machines or games themselves.

I wouldn't 100% agree with that. There are two huge advantages todays games have over the classics, obviously better hardware and online play. In all seriousness, how long have you played the single player of mw2 compared to multiplayer... For me, it has to be like 98/2. I didn't enjoy the single player whatsoever, and I can almost guarentee its because the multiplayer is so much funner to play. Anyway, my point is the reason I even play newer games nowadays is for the online multiplayer, something that if say goldeneye had, I might still be playing off and on.

So, when comparing single player from the past decades to the newer games, I'd have to give the nod to the older games. But of course, playing online destroys playing splitscreen even on a large tv.

You're comparing apples to oranges. Besides two player (which is how I spent most of my "classic" gaming days with friends -- Contra, etc.) and 2+ player arcade games, there wasn't any such thing as multi-player back in the 80s.

Games today cater to multi-player because of how popular it is. If there was on-line gaming back then your argument could conceivably make some sense.

Nostalgia factor aside, I don't even know how anyone could attempt to argue gaming isn't better now than it has ever been.

Nothing. Send it to me. I'll gladly take that garbage off your hands.

    Seriously.

    I'm not kidding.

Unless it's in perfect, like-new condition and working order, it's worth maybe $30 for the system and the rest of the controllers and games might get you another $50 on top of it. But you gotta find a collector to buy it or some mom and pop video game store dealing in vintage stuff. Not even Game Stop will entertain deals on cartridge based game systems anymore save for the GameBoy stuff. Even then, original GameBoy and the 2nd gen stuff is out the door. It's all DS stuff now.
