Acura pokes fun at audiophiles

I saw one of the stupidest commercial on TV the other day. It was for a new model Acura.

I've searched youtube but I can't find the video of it.

The ad started off by showing a man sitting in his living room. Right beside him is a tube amp. Looks like a push/pull KT88 design. The man starts to speak and mentioned things like "It's vacuum tubes there", "You know how rare these things are?" (if you know anything about audio, you know it's not rare).
He was obviously no audiophile, he's an audiophool.
Then, the sob narrator goes on saying something about if you want to appreciate real luxury, drive the new ******* from Acura.

Now my wording from the narrator is not exact since I've only seen the ad once but the one by the audiophool should be quite accurate.

That advertising was just stupid and makes them look like trolls. I'd rather have a kick **** sound system than a luxury car.

Anybody else see this ad?

Well at least it's not a message from the AUDI Club of Beijing! Fool that I am, I thought--when I saw that sign here, it was the AUDI(O) club of Beijing so I started looking around...where might that Audio Club be and what did they do? The laugh was on me. I was the Audi (o) Fool.

Certainly sounds stupid, but I definitely have not seen this.

    Yeah, I saw the commercial.

I'm also having a hard time figuring out why you are getting so bent out of shape over it?

    Who really cares?

Self-proclaimed audiophiles take their hobby VERY seriously sometimes.

If you're judging a car manufacturer's ability to represent HOME AUDIO equipment, their advertising just WON! Poking fun can be done with or without accuracy.

I look forward to seeing said advert.

You should stop whining and watch this commercial. It's much funnier. Well, maybe not as funny as watching Acura making fun of you audiophiles but it made me laugh like a hyena.

that doesn't upset me. When I'm at work and I hear a guy say he doesn't want to spend over $300 on an HTiB because he's not an audiophile, that irritates me.

That commercial was stupid as hell.

I don't even really get what point they're trying to make here.

Don't waste your money on petty things such as audio equipment? Only waste your money on an Acura?

If I was looking for a luxury car...Acura would be NOWHERE NEAR the top of my list.

Just for the record, I am not "whining" or "bent out of shape" over the ad. I did not mention that anywhere on my post. I just said it was stupid and pointless like Curt said.

Saw it, laughed, moved on. No biggie. People do buy luxury (audio included) without knowing a damn thing about it. BTW, there are several Acura ads like this, making fun of luxury watches, wine, suits, etc. They aren't only picking on us lol. Granted, my money will go to a nice 2 channel rig before it goes to a "luxury car".

I dunno...you were wiggin' out pretty good there. It's almost like you thought they were talkin' to you.

And, for the record, you don't have to "mention" being bent out of shape or whining. Know why? Because I did, in my assessment of your hissy fit over an Acura commercial. But hey, if the shoe fits, wear it.

Since when is Acura a luxury brand? Being a luxury arm of Honda still does not make them upscale. It still chuckles me when I walk into Honda dealership (usually to check out new motorcycles) that they sell lawnmowers right beside their cars.

It's kind of like saying "Chrysler" is a luxury brand. ;)

Acura is trying really hard to get their foot in that door. All it takes is chrome, leather, and navigation... right?

I don't see what's to get so offended about. Its making fun of people who spend money on expensive items who are also obviously clueless as to whether or not said items are actually worth it.

I'd suggest you turn off the TV. You might catch a Bose commercial and really blow a gasket.

At one point, a long while ago, it was. Often ranked as higher or higher than Cadillac when Cadillac's slogan of "The standard of the world" meant something.

Ugh, ever read the reviews on the NSX? I admit it was close to revolutionary in its days, etc etc, but it still never made it to super-car level, where they tried to position that car.

Also, when I am talking about Acura, I meant cars like CSX, where you pay extra several thousand dollars to essentially get leather seats installed in your Civic.

By CSX do you mean TSX? So is the TSX built on the same platform as the Civic? Does it share the same engine?

edit: did some googling. CSX is a Canadian thing. Never heard of it.

ummmm I wish I could say the same around here, a lot like to not wear clothing when they really really should......at least your in FL so its a better hot girl/guy ratio lol

and I saw this commerical not too long ago, thought it was kinda dumb because I would never consider Acua as a "lux" item but then again, to some people regular bud is a luxury item to red dog, so what do I know.
