We have a large open room that is used as an Cafeteria. (40x80) We are putting in a big screen tv to watch games / movies and PS3.

I was wondering if the Hitmaster would work setup as a Left and Right Speaker? We would only be using one side of the room for the TV. Ceilings are approx. 12' high.

I wouldn't. For $200 you can find a nice pair of used speakers.

Then I would have to add a cheap A/V receiver. Price just doubled then.

They would work GREAT. Run your left and right outputs from the tv to an RCA splitter at each Hitmaster (left output to left and right input on left Hitmaster / repeat for right).

Set your TV output to variable, set the volume on the Hitmaster at a little more than halfway (to start) and tweak it from there. They will play plenty loud, are tough, and will be out of the way.

If you do get it setup, please follow up with your results / pictures!

    Cheers,
    Russ

    Cherokee,

As Russ mentioned the Hitmaster would work very well for your application, Situations like these are what make the hitmaster so versatile. While we market it as a "Gaming stage monitor", The system has dozens of applicational advantages.

Exactly, installing a Y at the HMs input will make ithem for a mono right and left outputs which will provide for 80 watts RMS on each side. I did put the HM (single) to the test during our family Xmas party with great success, I imagine 2 of them would be quite decent providing you with roughly 160 watts RMS; http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1279514&postcount=39

I fully agree! This little box is simply amasing! Since I am a proud owner of one the prototype I look inside the box and can tell you the quality of the components are amazing when you consider the price.

    Cheers!

I was thinking Y splitter would get it going, but Russman has the ball and ran with it. Would definitely like to see some pics though.

That all said, the Polk Hitmaster looks like the best choice.
Yes since it would provide the OP with full range down to 40hz which is quite acceptable without buying any external subwoofers.

I use mine outside on the patio when I'm grilling. Works very well with my I-Phone.
