Newb Help Needed

Hey all, I've been lurking for a while. Would like to pick up a set of speakers and a receiver. I'm not much of a HT guy, but wouldn't mind a receiver that can do at least 5.1 if I want to ever do that. Definitely music is a higher priority. The room the speakers will go is quite shallow, but has a vaulted ceiling. The fact that the hallway to walk to the kitchen is right behind the couch makes surround speakers a little tough right now.
I'm keen on picking up something from Harman Kardon Direct on ebay, mostly because I'm a sucker for the deals to be had on there. Anything you all can recommend here?
Speaker wise I've been waiting forever on Polk Direct for some rtiA3s, but none have turned up in months. Lately I've been pondering the LSi7/9s, but am not sure what receiver I'd need for those. I have an inherited Denon DRA-295 (http://www.usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/587.asp) right now. Most of my listening will be at fairly moderate volumes. I'm not much of a crank it up person.

WELCOME TO CLUB POLK!
If you're going the AVR route with LSIs you're going to need a receiver that has pre-outs or something like a higher end NAD AVR? Because NO normal AVR can handle the 4 ohm load they present well enough to drive them to satisfying 'musical' levels.
So get something like a Harman Kardon with pre-outs for a power amp and buy a used amp on audiogon.com 5 channels (200 watts/channel on an 8 ohm load should do you).
LSis are a great choice for 'music' BTW!

Cool thanks. I may wait out a good price on some rtiA3s in the meantime to test the waters.
I have read of some people having success with higher end AVRs running 4 ohm speakers, but maybe a more basic AVR with a simple amp is a better solution with the LSis. -
IMHO, look into Onkyo, Pioneer, Denon or Marantz line-up for the receiver, but NOT HK.Panasonic PT-AE4000U projector for movies

That room deserves a Pioneer SC-25 paired up with a pair of LSi15s bro. A very nice combo and the IcePower Amps can handle the load as confirmed by others.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Motion seconded! The Pioneer Elite is an amazing receiver line-up and has great room correction built-in to help with less-than-adequate spaces.
