I just found out that there is a Kibitz Room in Philly! I had no idea. I feel like such a schmuck but it's between 15th and 16th on Locust so I never walk down that part of the block 'cause my train station entrances are at the corners.

There is one in Cherry Hill, NJ as well and we used to send someone down to get sammiches from them all the time when I worked in Moorestown. Between them and the F&M Deli in Mt. Laurel, it's a wonder that I don't weigh 9,000 pounds!

I'm thinkin' a Rueben with a side of potato pancakes with sour cream for lunch!

I just spent the last fifteen minutes salivating over that menu.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. No, actually, I've been working on dropping weight. Lost all my conditioning over the last year from working on the house. You know, you work 10 hour days then go home with just enough time to drop a deuce and cram some junk down your throat and you go work on the house until 11 or 12 at night. You get done, you're so beat you don't feel like doing anything but sleeping. A couple weeks ago I was 185 and having trouble fitting in the pants again.

I weighed myself this morning and I'm down to 176 and the pants are loose again. Just gotta get back on the exercise regimen again. I'll probably be around 170-175 and 10% body fat again about the time of Polk Fest.

That's a good one...I've seen some photos of the good old boys and they're not dining on salads?

At Jstas's age anyone can gain and lose weight pretty easily-I gained and lost my body weight several times back then...been there done that; wait until you're older!

In any case I could DEFINITELY USE A GOOD DELI...ain't going to find one of those in Beijing...I don't think? Over a dozen years in Manhattan doesn't help...one gets spoiled. And that is a nice selection!

yeah, we do have our cupcake eaters in this group. Hell, look at the pics of me. I was weighing in at 360-370 in some of those pics. down to about 295 now thanks to an overall healthier diet and lifestyle

John is definitly one of the more fit and trim members of our crew, the 220 comment I made was a goof, that kid can probably mainline cannoli cream and cake icing out of the jar with a spoon and not break the deuce.

I liked John's post as there might be many out there who do not understand the pure delight of a good jewish Deli on demand. I got one in Newark I hit once in a while, there Pastrami will make you cry.

There is NOTHING like a good Jewish deli. And the pickle bar is always a must. Anyone notice how many of 'em serve that celery soda? I've never had the courage to try it.

Dr. Brown's Cel-Ray! That stuff is pretty good!

    http://www.popsoda.com/drbrownscelray.html

It's good! Kinda like Ginger Ale but with a pronounced celery taste. It's peppery though because it's made with a celery seed extract instead of the juice from celery stalks. Maybe it's an acquired taste, I dunno. I like it. Goes well with a hot pastrami or a good Ruben.

Dr. Browns has an impressively good array of sodas too. The best ones are the cream soda, black cherry soda, orange soda, ginger ale, root beer and of course, the Cel-Ray.

The one that lotsa people seem to love but I just can't seem to stomach is the egg creams. So many places make them so many different ways. Sometimes it's like drinking mayonnaise and other times it's runny, like curdled milk. The tastes is OK, just not big on the texture. It's made with chocolate syrup, milk and seltzer and while it is reminiscent of a root beer float, it's not as sweet.

Good call. I just couldn't remember the brand. And I used to drink the hell outta their black cherry flavor. To be honest, I haven't really seen much (if any) of it since moving to Atlanta.

I'm intrigued about the egg creams. You certainly didn't sell me with the description, but it sounds like it may have potential.

Two words John; Springdale Deli. They cook their own corned beef (1st & 2nd cuts) & pastrami right there, they sliced their lox so thin you could see through it. Nice fresh, dense, chewy Jewish rye and pumpernickel. When I was living in Cherry Hill we used to have a Sunday morning Jewish feast with Bloody Marys every week.

Their corned beef special was so high you couldn't get your mouth over it. BTW when you got there early on Sunday mornings the corned beef and pastrami was still hot from the cooker! Effing yummy! Geez, I'm making myself hungry.

I don't know if it is still there. I googled it and "Sprindale Deli & Restaurant" comes up. I only remember it being called Sprindale Deli.

Been to Springdale. F&M beats both Springdale and teh Kibitz Room hands down. But they are too far away from work right now and weekends it's next to impossible to get a table. Plus they close early, only being open for breakfast and lunch. Last I knew, F&M's suppliers are the same ones that supply places like The Carnegie Deli.
