I know this will help you a bunch, but I love the 1c's. I cannot say anything about the Dyne's, but I can tell you that you will enjoy the SDA'sThe Gear... I like they are black so it will match the decor. Also how would my b&k ref 4420 do driving these? Do they need more power?Living Room setup: Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH, Krell KAV 300i, PS Audio DL III DAC, Tyler Acoustics Taylo 7u, Dynaudio Audience 120C+, SVS 25/31PCI, B-P-T Clean Power Center, Ps3, Panny 50" S1 Plasma, Tekline speaker cables, Audio Art interconnects, and Pangea power cables.

Your B&K will do a great job of driving the SDA-1Cs. I have used a B&K ST-202+, which is basically an earlier predecesor to your 4420 to drive my SDA-1Cs with great success. B&Ks and SDAs are a wonderful match. The smooth but detailed top-end will take away a lot of the harshness of the SL-2000 tweeters and if you happen to find a pair of SDA-1Cs with the tweets already upgraded to the RDO-194s, it will sound even better. What are you running for a pre?

pioneer elite for now, but im shopping for a pre with ht bypass in my budgetLiving Room setup: Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH, Krell KAV 300i, PS Audio DL III DAC, Tyler Acoustics Taylo 7u, Dynaudio Audience 120C+, SVS 25/31PCI, B-P-T Clean Power Center, Ps3, Panny 50" S1 Plasma, Tekline speaker cables, Audio Art interconnects, and Pangea power cables.

Pioneer Elite is good stuff! That will sound great! Of course a dedicated pre with ht bypass like you mentioned you were shopping for will take your two channel rig to another level. SDAs and tubes are a really good match. I'm currently running an Anthem tube pre and tube/solid state hybrid amp with great results. The Anthem Pre-2L is a great tube pre with ht bypass that can be picked up for a relatively good price. What's your budget for your pre?

under 600. Do you think the SDA 1C will be a upgrade or lateral move from my dyns.
Thats the main question Im looking to answer.Living Room setup: Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH, Krell KAV 300i, PS Audio DL III DAC, Tyler Acoustics Taylo 7u, Dynaudio Audience 120C+, SVS 25/31PCI, B-P-T Clean Power Center, Ps3, Panny 50" S1 Plasma, Tekline speaker cables, Audio Art interconnects, and Pangea power cables. -
That I can't answer for sure having not heard the Dynaudio Audience 70's. I am going to have to defer that to the other members here. I can tell you that the SDA-1Cs sound fantastic for 2 channel audio and with a few mods (RDO-194s, crossovers, Ben's Interconnect cable), can be made into truly outstanding speakers. The SDA soundstage is so seductive for two channel listening. Of course there are those who do not care for the SDA effect.
If you have a little cash to play around with, I would recommend picking up the SDAs and seeing for yourself how they compare to your Dyns. If you don't like the SDAs, you can put them up for sale and you probably want lose a thing.
You should definitley be able to find the Anthem Pre 2L for under 600 (and if you look hard and get lucky you can probably find one with modified caps and upgraded tubes for that amount or under). There are some other tube pres out there that can be had for well within your price range also. If I had the cash and were in your shoes, I would pick up those SDAs, add a tube Pre with ht bypass and never look back. Of course if you found the SDAs to not be to your liking, you could always sell them and would have no problem recouping your investment. -

These speakers will serve for ht and 2ch. How will they perform with ht?

$600, IMO, is too much to pay for a pair of Studio stock 1C's. Apples and Oranges as far as the comparo. SDA's are special and will give you a different type of presentation. SDA's are really incredible when set-up and driven properly and doing the upgraded X-over and tweets, again IMO, is a must and really takes them to the top.
Those 1C's are worth $450 tops, IMO. But if you really want them then go for it.

P.s. They do HT very well but 2ch is where it's at for SDA's. It's a waste to put them strictly on HT duty. If that's the plan then go with something else."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Im not much of a handy man, is it hard to swap out the tweets and x-overs?Living Room setup: Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH, Krell KAV 300i, PS Audio DL III DAC, Tyler Acoustics Taylo 7u, Dynaudio Audience 120C+, SVS 25/31PCI, B-P-T Clean Power Center, Ps3, Panny 50" S1 Plasma, Tekline speaker cables, Audio Art interconnects, and Pangea power cables.

Tweets are plug-n-play. X-overs are trickier if you don't have a bit of soldering skills, but not impossible as there are some very good tutorials here on CP, plus lots of help.
Just to give you a reference. 3 years ago I paid $500 for a pair of standard 1C's with RD0194-1 tweetes and Sonicaps. He's pretty high on the price especially since they are studio's. I bought mine from a Polkie in Illinois at one of the local gatherings.

P.s. You're looking at about $350-400 in upgrades. I also know another local Polkie who bought a pair of beautifully refinished 1C's with RD0's for $500 and those were the standard 1C's and are pretty flawless. At $600 he's a bit of a dreamer."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Agreed with all the above, especially the highlighted part. SDA's make for a huge presentation in an ht setup, and almost eliminate the need for a center channel. One is needed only to help focus the dialog and nothing more.
That said, SDA's were designed with two channel in mind and this is where they shine. Get them and enjoy. The Gear... I did not know the details of the SDAs you were looking at. $600 for stock studios is on the steep side. I paid in the 500 range for my standard 1Cs with the RDO-194 upgrade. The crossovers where stock however. Still they were in mint condition and standard 1Cs with upgraded tweets.
As far as SDAs for HT purposes. I used mine before in a combination HT/two channel setup and they did great for HT. They do even better in two channel, but are quite good at HT also. -
I use my setup for all tv and movie watching, plus 2ch music. Pretty much a do it all setup. I listen to alot of 2 ch though.Living Room setup: Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH, Krell KAV 300i, PS Audio DL III DAC, Tyler Acoustics Taylo 7u, Dynaudio Audience 120C+, SVS 25/31PCI, B-P-T Clean Power Center, Ps3, Panny 50" S1 Plasma, Tekline speaker cables, Audio Art interconnects, and Pangea power cables.

I use mine that way as well, but it's 90% 2ch music and then 10% 2ch movies which actually sound excellent.

So heiney are you using the dared tube pre for movies also with good results?Living Room setup: Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH, Krell KAV 300i, PS Audio DL III DAC, Tyler Acoustics Taylo 7u, Dynaudio Audience 120C+, SVS 25/31PCI, B-P-T Clean Power Center, Ps3, Panny 50" S1 Plasma, Tekline speaker cables, Audio Art interconnects, and Pangea power cables.

Sometimes. If it's already powered up then yes, if not, then I use the Adcom just to save wear and tear on the tubes and the Dared, etc.
But yes, it sounds great and certainly can be used for movies. I run the Dared through the HT bypass on the Adcom GFP-750 so I get the best of all 3 worlds........active solid state, passive solid state and then tubes.
When the HT bypass is engaged on the 750 then the Dared is a full function pre-amp. It works out very, very well. Especially when watching movies or if I don't have time to listen for longer periods. It takes time for the tubes to warm up, etc, etc. so I can just use the 750 and not even mess with the tubes.
