I have a set of M70s that I'm using and a friend has a set of Cerwin Vega V-12f. Now I can not find to much out about them other then:

V-12f
Frequency Response: 28 Hz - 20 kHz

Recommend Power: 10 - 300 watts

Sensitivity: 98 dB

Impedance: 8 Compatible

Protection: Self-Resetting PTC (Tweeter)

Video Shielding: No

Dimensions (H x W x D): 34" x 13 5/8" x 14 1/4" (86.4 x 34.6 x 36.2cm)

Weight: 49 lb./22.2 kg

Finish: Gray Granite Vinyl

1 12 inch sub, 1 6/2 and 1 tweeter

Now we both are using a onkyo 707, are my polks better sounding compaired to his? Looking at the specs they look to be about the same? Am I missing something?

The way a speaker sounds cannot be determined by specs. I have heard a number of Cerwin Vega speakers, and I'd say the Polks would sound WAY better - maybe not louder, but better. The only person that can judge that is you, and your ears.

I have to agree with James there. What you WILL hear is that the C-Vegas will sound LOUDER at the same volume setting because they are more efficient. You will also hear lower bass notes because that's what CV is all about....big drivers, square cabinet, party sound. But in terms of 'quality' of sound--the highs, the mids, the tightness of the bass, etc. the Polks should yield more and better detail, soundstage and imaging, etc.

Listen closely and 'you' will hear the differences yourself. CVs are a pretty 'muddy' sounding speaker with a veil over their highs and a non-distinct midrange. But they can put out some serious SPLs....if nothing esle.

    Enjoy your Polks!

George, only somebody with 7500 posts would give that advice to someone asking for an opinion.

Forget specs and trust your own ears.

A friend of mine has a set of those CV's and they sound like ****$ to me. No definition, sound stage etc etc. Now if you want to piss off the neighbors. These are your speakers! :D

IMO, the Polk's would probably sound better. I've heard a lot of CV's in the past, and I've never been real impressed by them. As others have mentioned, CV's are SPL queens. You can crank them to the moon without even trying, and they'll pressurize a room with some really deep bass response. Aside from those two things though, the SQ just isn't there. Tinny sounding, inaccurate highs...midrange that's kind of on the dry side. Just kind of a "loose" overall sound.

That said, you can't tell which will sound better by the specs. If you can, try to compare the two side by side.
