Is this a steal?

Hi all,

I've heard the name for and know some of these go for big money. Have been investigating turntables, but not sure much about them. I would love comments on this turntable, and if it's worth the price.

It is a steal in my book, and a crime if you let it get away from you.

For $125 that is a pretty good price for a Pro-ject starter table. I think they were about $400 new so I'd say that is a pretty good price.

Pro-ject makes plenty of upgrades for their tables for when the upgrade bugs kicks in.

I'm not sure I want to drop 125 bucks on something I'm not sure I will be interested in. I've decided to pass until I figure out of I have a niche for vinyl.

James it is expensive to get into but there is no concern for software as you know GG always puts forth plenty of vinyl covering all music genre.

I have that very same table. Like the others have said, it's a decent starter table. For $125 that's not a bad price at all. Having said that, you can sometimes find Technics SL-1200s (which I also own a 1200 MK 2) used for $125 to $200 and I would much rather pay the cash for the Technics. There is no comparison in build quality between the two, and while the Project does have good upgrade abillity, the Technics is a better table to start with and has more upgrade ability also. Wait and get a used 1200.

Good call. I did some soul searching and vinyl listening last year and decided I don't want to go that route, even with nice gear at my disposal. It was just one more thing...

Pycroft, Try and get the Project down to $100. Great design. The Pioneer is nice but you're just paying for flashy extras, that'll probably break sooner than later.

Oh, I'm GOING to try it out. George has offered to lend me a usable one to see what I think. I figured I'd keep my eye open and if I see one that is a steal and reasonably cheap, I can pick it up. Most likely, I will steal one of his 50 dollar functional ones, give it a whirl for a few weeks, and decide where I will go from there.

I have some vinyl from my college days, and will be picking up a few from George when I pick up the turntable. I know nothing about this aspect of the hobby, but want to experience it before judging.

Hey! I was trying to be POLITE! ;)

James, just get the Project already, really! :) As long as it is in good condition, once it goes you probably won't find it again.
