Always liked Adcom back in the day, looking to pick up a used amp for two channel, of course still looking for the right NAD or Carver, but not having much luck right now.

Have you checked Audiogon? If not, I'm sure you can find one on there for a great price. If not check out Rotel, Sunfire, Parasound, Outlaw Audio. Link is www.audiogon.comShoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Sorry, I can find the Adcom stuff, really was looking for opinions on Adcom Polk combo, Since the Rti's can be a little bright, but I am finding out that is really with newer recordings that are poorly mastered nowadays. As I have gone through some older recordings, not hearing the brightness so much, it can be there at times though.Polk RTi A7's FrontPolk CSi A4 CenterPolk Tsi 100's SurroundOnkyo TX-RZ50:)Oppo BDP 83 (Collecting dust)MIT Terminator 3 Speaker CableMIT Terminator 2 IC's (Oppo 2 chan)Signal Cable HT TWOEpson PowerLite Home Cinema 1080Hisense 55 U8GBelkin PF 60 Power Center

So, no one has opinions on Adcom /Polk combos? Just wondering hey they sound. Is Adcom very neutral or bright or more laid back?Polk RTi A7's FrontPolk CSi A4 CenterPolk Tsi 100's SurroundOnkyo TX-RZ50:)Oppo BDP 83 (Collecting dust)MIT Terminator 3 Speaker CableMIT Terminator 2 IC's (Oppo 2 chan)Signal Cable HT TWOEpson PowerLite Home Cinema 1080Hisense 55 U8GBelkin PF 60 Power Center

From what I can tell, mine is closer to neutral than bright, but definitely not on the warm side. It pairs nicely with my RTi10s (RTiA7 predecessors). While not an amazing 2-channel combo, I've bumped it up - IMHO - to "pretty good" by moving to a warmer source. This rig is mainly for HT, but for an occasional 2-channel session, it is more than adequate. The A7s are decent full-range speakers. -
My experience with adcom/polk was "bright". If you are determined to go with adcom, there are some tweaks that can tame the brightness somewhat--pm ben62670 and he can tell you about the mod/tweak--good luckJC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

+1 on this. I ran an Adcom GFA-555 on a pair of RTi-10s and while it sounded great for home theater, it was a little bright to me for two channel. I would take a look at B&K, Parasound, or NAD if I were in your shoes, especially the B&K. It has much smoother and warmer highs, and is a great match for the RTi series. If you want to stick with Adcom, Ben can definitely help you out. -

No not wanting to stick with anything, I always liked Adcom back in the 80's, was looking at a used amp that had a lot of flexibility for me, looking at a couple 2535. I purchased a Carver for now, and was looking at the NAD. I had a NAD 3020 back in the 80's, probably my fave.Polk RTi A7's FrontPolk CSi A4 CenterPolk Tsi 100's SurroundOnkyo TX-RZ50:)Oppo BDP 83 (Collecting dust)MIT Terminator 3 Speaker CableMIT Terminator 2 IC's (Oppo 2 chan)Signal Cable HT TWOEpson PowerLite Home Cinema 1080Hisense 55 U8GBelkin PF 60 Power Center -
I have my 9s mono blocked with a Adcom 555se each and it sounds amazing. It all depends on how it sounds to your ears though. Sometimes a person says something sounds bright, and the person sitting right next to them says no that is warm. So unless you listen and see what you like you wont know.Man Cave: 7.1

Although Ive used Adcom 5503/Polk Rt55i as well as Adcom5503/Rti70, and it sounded very good, but again for 2 channel it was a weeeee bit bright to my ears. -

While I agree 100% that these things are largely listener and system synergy dependent, one thing to keep in mind with the RTi-A9s vs. the RTi-A7s is the mid driver/tweeter arrangement. On the A9s (and the older RTI-12s) the tweeter is placed vertically between the two mid drivers whereas on the A7s (and the older RTi-10s) the tweeter is placed directly on top of the the single mid driver. Believe it or not this arrangement has a large effect on the highs and the highs are much smoother with the tweeter running between the mid drivers. I own both the RTi-12s and RTi-10s and to my ears the highs on the 12s are somewhat smoother than on the 10s, so an amp that may seem neutral on the A9s may be bright on the A7s. -

hey RIC i just purchased(probably 2 weeks ago) an Adcom 5800 for my polk rti10's it works really well, the low end that comes out of these speakers after i hooked that up to them was amazing. Use your judgement however, thats just my opinion!
