I am having a new house built and have had the house pre-wired for sound in the ceiling. I have front left and right, rear left and right, and front center wiring in the ceiling. I was thinking about using RC80i for all of them. Any thoughts? In particular for the front center in the ceiling will the RC80i do the trick or will another option be better in the ceiling for front center. Thanks in advance for the help.

Well welcome to the forum. I'm sure you'll get quite a few people asking why do you want your speakers on the ceiling. But if its your only option, I thing those speakers should work out fine. I believe with those speakers, you can aim the tweeter, so that my work out. What kind of T.V. and A/V equipment do you plan on using?

Thanks for the reply. The big reason for the in-ceiling was for the clean invisible look. As far as the components, I haven't actually bought anything yet, so suggestions welcome.

Anybody have any opinion if the rc85i would be better in the ceiling than the rc80i

I'm using RC85i for my fronts and center, and RC80i for my rears.

The fronts and center are wall mounted; the rears are in the ceiling (there is no place to wall-mount the rears due to windows and suchlike).

In this configuration it's impossible to compare them. It seems possible that the RC85i could have some advantage in *not* having the tweeter co-axially mounted with the woofer, as in the circular RC80i. I suspect the difference would be hard to detect though.

I'd be concerned about putting the fronts and center in the ceiling, however. The tweeters can be aimed, but only by a fairly small angle, and you would have difficulty aiming them at your listening position.
