Are you using Kazaa?

Just a heads up,

If you using an older version 2.1 or below be sure and upgrade to the latest version. There is a major security hole. I was using this on my laptop without virus protection and an IRC Trojan was loaded on my system and the hackers were able to get my credit card info and luckily only bought a $7.50 item. After installing Norton it caught all 6 IRC Trojans. While running Kazaa the hacker’s computers tunneled in every hour to try and upload the Trojans again. I installed the latest version and the hacking stopped. It wasn’t a major loss for me, but it just goes to show just how easy it is to steal your stuff. I believe the site they purchased the item from was a set of dummy businesses that were setup to convert the stolen credit. My bank did reimburse me. :)

wow, jrausch, you're kinda lucky they didn't do anything worse.

A few notes on Kazaa from someone who knows what they're talking about:
*If you don't use it ALL THE TIME, disable it from startup, don't have it running in the backround taking up RAM, and running it's advritising services (and disable anything else from startup you don't use every time).
*Check you're installed programs list- often filesharing programs will install advritzing junk and other programs you don't want at time of installation.
*I hate to be stingy, but disabling filesharing is an option to consider if you don't want people in your system.
*If you're using Kazaa- Try Kazaa lite. It was written by a group of people who were tired of some of the crap Kazaa gives you. Basically:
Kazaa lite = Kazaa - advertising + perfect particapation level.

    That's my two cents. :-)

Kazaa Lite still has all the security flaws. Its amazing how terrible the sercurity is on Kazaa. I get around one virus per minute I spend connected. Thankfully I don't connect often and I don't have my CC info anywhere on my computer.

Furthermore, I think its terrible and I suggest not using it at all.

    Shizelbs,

I don't have my CC info on my laptop either. They used a special trojan that keeps track of all of your keyboard commands then their software looks for CC numbers. Encryption means nothing if they do it this way. I should have known better than to not run Norton at all times. I had just re-imaged my laptop and forgot to load it up. I have been using the donkey for some time now, but Kazaa has better access to music.
