I'm still lurking thinking I need some new speakers. But probably last set I will ever buy..... System I have sounds good. Looking for clarity above all. Stuck a new tweet in one of my 90's, Old psw300 sub had some problems like the box coming apart but screwed that together. There is nowhere around here to audition these or really anything. Was looking at rtia9's due to looks. Still dont know if I like the looks of LSI's but do want towers and not bookshelfs.
Main question would be. I have a Onkyo 805 which is 130 @ 8 with dynamic at 250 @ 4 ohm. Almost seems like I wouldnt have enough. But if I went with the 25's wouldnt that help me with actually not powering anything but the upper's? (powered sub) I used to have seperates before and dont want to go back so I am just going to stick with receivers from now on.

    Welcome to Club Polk.

You should be purchasing speakers based on their SOUND not looks in general.
You WILL need an amp if you intend to buy any of the LSI series speakers.
Your receiver does have preouts so ALL you have to buy is an amplifier.
You should get no less than 200wpc @ 8ohms to ensure that your speakers will operate to their full potential.
You will get more bang for your buck if you buy a new amp from Emotiva, Outlaw, or purchase a used amp from www.audiogon.com. Brands to look at are: Parasound, NAD, Adcom, Rotel, Sunfire, B & K.

Another alternative is get a 5 channel amp NOW, and put it on your current speakers. You will be amazed at the improvement which just might put your new speaker purchase on the back burner for a while.
Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

I have an Onkyo 805. It will drive the Lsi 25's but you would still be better off using a seperate quality amp. I use a Carver amp that puts out over 400 @ 4ohms. That is the type of power you need to really make them sing to there potential. I have not heard the Rtia9's but I am very content with my Lsi 25's. Buy a set of Lsi 25's and try it with the Onkyo. If it is not enough power you can always add the power amp and use the 805 as the Pre amp for HT. Just a thought.
Polk HT system 1: LSIC, LSI25 mains, LSI F/X rears, Lsi F/X rear centers,
Yamaha RX-V2500 System, Carver A753 3 channel amp.

Polk HT system 2: , SRT system with f/x 1,000's rear speakers on 7.1 system currently using Onkyo TX-RZ820 receiver, powered by Sunfire Grand Theater amp

    Polk Speaker collection: SDA SRS 1.2tl x 2, SRT system, SDA SRS 2 P/B, SDA 2A, SDA 1C Studio, SDA CRS+, Monitor 7B & 4, SRS 3.1tl, RTA 15tl, LS90, LSI 9

running a AVR and LSI isn't the greatest way to go. They are a 4 ohm load and should be matched with an amp that can easily do a 4 ohm load. If your running a full 5.1 or 7.1 LSI off an AVR your probably going to have a few issues in terms of how hard your AVR would be working and really putting a strain on it as normally they are not ment to run a 4 load but much more an 8 or 6 at the most. I would recommend getting a 5 channel amp and using the pre outs if you do go with LSI.

Also don't base your buy off of looks, sound is what matters, you could have a beautiful speaker but if it sounds like crap, well then you got a nice decoration in your living room I guess.

Schuttz - it's Ok to buy speaks because they look good to you. After all, they are going to be prominent members of your living area. Just make sure you like the sound as well.

Just a fyi, I ran my LSi25s' subs and PSW1000 all off of the pre-outs, and just left the high-range drivers on my receiver's amp, and it cut down on the stress big-time! The only time it tripped to protection is when it was honestly too loud for my own good. Nonetheless, go for an amp. I ended up grabbing a steal of a deal on a Crown and life has been grand ever since

Frankly, I chose Polk over Klipsch due to cosmetic reasons. To each his own.
Do you hear that buzzing noise?
