Sorry but I couldn't find a thread devoted to this movie. Correct me if I'm wrong.
To the point... I thought this was a fantastic movie and quite possibly the darkest the Coen Brothers have filmed (including No Country For Old Men). As a "modern day" take on the Job story from a Jewish perspective, it definitely makes the viewer uncomfortable throughout. I suppose the only comedy that could possibly be derived from it would be from the typical Coen "quirkiness", as well as watching so many things go unfathomably wrong to such a good individual. The acting was absolutely top notch. And as usual, the script was of the highest order. However, it is an unsettling movie and had me up thinking hard about it while trying to go to sleep.
****MINOR SPOILERS****
I LOVE the minor twist at the end with the Coens having this "Job" commit such a minor misdeed in switching the Korean student's grade to a C-. As a result, God effectively loses his bet with Satan. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what I saw when his son finally attempted to hand over the $20 to the neighborhood bully. We finally see the latter's face and it certainly looks evil. And then of course, all hell breaks loose.

I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

I have a different take on this movie. I thought it sucked big time. Maybe I will try to go back and watch it again. I watched half and turned it off regretting my blind buy on BD.My Main Gear

I normally like Coen Brothers movies, but this one did nothing for me. Wasn't funny, wasn't interesting. I don't get what all the Oscar hype was about.Equipment list:

I love Ceon Bros movies but not this one. Man, it was so boring! It seemed like there was a lot of ethnic humor that I just didn't get. I was like, what a bunch of losers! I can't put my finger on it but worst movie of the year for me.My Main Gear
