Hey guys I could use some opinions.

I am seriously throwing the idea of getting outside speakers. Since I didn't win Doro's Karma set. I have about a $100 or so budget. I have some BB gift cards that could help this out.

Any brands that you guys recommend ???

Are they truely outdoor in a sense of intall install and forget ???

Any helpful hints that aren't obvious ???

Thanks

TK

Not trying to be an ****...but I don't think that anything in the $100 range is going to sound listenable or last more than 3 seasons in Maryland. I've heard Niles (ended up buying these), Polk, and Klipsch...mine aren't sounding as fresh as they used to and wouldn't mind hearing some thoughts from a recent outdoor speaker shopper.

Mine were easy to "install and forget"...and I assume most are as long as your patio is prewired.

The only "hint" I have is more of a recommendation/opinion....I think you'd be better off waiting until your budget is a little higher or save your money altogether and just use an old boombox outside. You can always check the bay for something cheaper, but used outdoor speakers probably aren't the best idea....

I won some Atrium 60s from the Polk Ebay store for 175 shipped and they are awesome. I would definitely recommend the 55s/60s. They look great and sound very good.

    What's up TK?!
I went through this last summer. I rationalized that sound dissipates quickly outdoors, therefore, so will the $$ you spend on speakers. Like you, I also had a BB gift card to toss in. So, I auditioned all the brands they had: Polk, Klipsch, Insignia, Bose, Yamaha, Def Tech, and ended up with these: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Moderno+-+6-1/2%22+Indoor/Outdoor+Speakers+%28Pair%29+-+White/8785102.p?id=1205246216090&skuId=8785102

Sounded good to my ears, decent low-end extension for the $$ (too much and your neighbors will hate you), fiberglass woofers. I bought 2 pairs of them. They've only been out about a year, but they seem to be holding up well, and still sound the same to me. Plus, they're very plain looking, therefore discreet - I like that. They can be painted too. I may do that this year.

^^^^ Those may not be too bad. Looking at Polk's Ebay store and other ebay sells, the Atrium prices went back up. Guess I got in at a great time. I'd still recommend a pair of Atrium 55s/60s if you can get a great deal on them. Some AVS members gave great reviews on TICs

I'm a fan of the Def Tech's too, and I remembered that their outdoor speakers sounded very much like my ProMonitors, which I'm very happy with. Good to hear you're enjoying them. I love having my tunes outside with me! :)

Polk's having a promo where if you spend enough, they'l throw in a free set of Atriums. Perhaps you and a buddy or neighbor can pool together and take advantage?

I got Atrium 45's from Amazon last year for $75. Granted, they are the "babies" of the Atrium line, but to get started, why not? Then, when your budget allows, upgrade. I'm putting a pair of 55's upstairs on the main deck, and the 45's go down below by the hottub. 45's in the master bath, too, for that matter.

Not at all szhleepy. I have a system in pretty much every room. Just was trying to keep the cost down. I agree with you though.... Probably regret getting el ceapo's.

Ed. Thanks for that info. Def. worth a listening to.

Sherardp - thanks for your opinion. I was leaning towards them as well.

Miller Lite Scott came to the rescue. He turned me on to Proficient speakers. I might gives these a shot.

    Thanks for the responses guys.
