Francis Ford Coppola's Tetro

On the advice of polkfarmboy, I snagged the BD of this from Netflix. It's basically about two brothers in a family with a famous father, and the unfortunate effect that had on them. It's a surprisingly intimate movie, and while I normally don't care for Vincent Gallo as an actor (and actually kinda think he's a pretentious git, based on his films), he seems perfectly cast here. The other lead, Alden Ehrenreich, is someone I'm going to keep looking out for, as he reminded me a lot of Leonardo Dicaprio when he first started out. He does a great job with some fairly heady material.
What's most striking about the movie is the visual style. The majority of the movie is in black and white, with color flashback scenes appearing throughout. I recently bought an Epson 8500UB projector, and though I can't say for sure, Tetro appears to have been shot digitally. If not, it's one of the cleanest film prints I've ever seen, with some stunning resolution and detail. On the audio side, don't expect much because this mix is focused on the dialogue... but the music was beautifully reproduced on the lossless track.
If you're a fan of Coppola's work, this is definitely one to check out.

Francis Ford Coppola? It's been a looong time since we've seen something worthwhile from him IMO. But I always keep an open mind so I may check this out.
Also are YOU actually saying that 'polkfarmboy' 'knows' movies? Because, I thought we had someone else who did films here!

I can't speak for his advice beyond this one movie, but polkfarmboy was right about this one. I think it's Coppola's best movie since The Outsiders.Equipment list:
