It's time for me to renew my 3 XM units and I cannot find any valid discounts online. I've either lost my search skills or they are scarce. Anyone found any good renewal discounts lately?

here is a really long thread at fatwallet forums:

Seems like most people get one year for $77 or 5 months for $20. Sounds like the 5 month deal signs you up for a renewal at a higher price eventually. When I bought a new car last year, I called after the trial was up and requested and got the $77 deal for a year, although with taxes and fees I think it was closer to $90.

After wading through the offshore renewal personnel, I was connected to a most capable "retention" specialist. She listened to my story about long time customer with multiple radios, etc. Finally, she offered a year for half price, which is exactly what I was fishing for. Win-win in my book as they did not loose a customer and I paid a more reasonable fee for their service.

    Good Job apc!
I couldn't get diddly squat out of them and have slowly been cancelling my service.I have gone from 8 subscriptions to 2.Next time renewal comes around it will probably be down to 1.

My dad used to say, "Kill 'em with kindness". It works. People usually respond much better to a well-mannered request than a rant. Don't give up ;).

edit - did not mean to imply that you were ranting...only stating the method that worked for me this time. After reading, it appeared my statement could be misinterpretted.

it seems like some people were successful in getting online included with their $77 deal. I wish I had pushed for that as it would be really nice to listen to XM at work.

Speaking of work...I have a really cool little setup around my desk consisting of an XM boombox which accepts my mobile Audiovox unit and wires into a small amp which powers my Polk RT25's. I just pull it out of the vehicle I drive that day and pop it in to provide sounds all day long.

Yeah, sounds like a nice setup but I'm too cheap to shell out for hardware at this point. The XM unit is built-in to my wife's new car head unit so me getting anything XM right now would involve hardware costs and another subscription. I like XM. I just don't like it THAT much. :p
