Go for the digms, especially if you're looking used. I picked up a pair of v.4's from agon about two years ago for about $1500 shipped to my door. They only had one small cosmetic blemish that is very difficult to see, so I was very happy with them. They are solid performers.

I dont think anyone will disagree that the Studio 100's are the better speaker.
If price is not a factor the Studio's win hands down. I do believe the nonspecial regular retail price is about 800 bucks a pair difference. Prices vary at any particular time.
On another note, axiomaudio's M80's are in the same league as the other two. They will let you audition in your home for 30 days. If you chose not to buy, you pay for return shipping...(sounds fair to me) M80's are 4 ohm speakers so beware.

Everything I've read on the Paradigm Studio 100's, no matter what version they were, has always been excellent . I've looked around for older versions, trying to find a bargain somewhere on some old dusty ones someone put in a closet, but they seem to hold their value pretty well.

Little confused, from what I've seen polk A9's go for around 1200 refurbished at polk direct, otherwise newegg has them for 1700 while all studio 100 models retail for around 3K+ I beleive. Used you can find them on the gon sometimes for around 1700 I beleive was the last pair up in black V4's.
Just a bit confused on what you mean by 800 bucks a pair difference.
A9's are a good speaker, I own them and like them. The studio 100's to me are a better speaker. However there is a price difference. Also the center to go with them (if your looking to do HT) is huge, sounds great but it is a beast so just make sure you have enough room for everythign you want to set up as it can be a problem sometimes due to the size of the center. You can go with the smaller one, yet I think it lacks and for me didn't sound nearly as good when the larger was in the mix. -
Yeah I saw those studio 100's on AGON yesterday. I made an offer but they were already sold, the site just has not updated their status yet. I can buy a pair of A9 cherry for $1000 flat brand new. I really wanted the studio 100's though but they are very very hard to find used, and in the cherry color I want. I have a friend in NY who has a store that sells paradigm and he cant find any ones used either. I might just pull the trigger on the A9 and buy a really good receiver with the cash I save, maybe the pioneer sc-25/or sc-05 which ever one I get the better deal on.

So if I do go with the A9's can someone tell me what to expect? I had owned a pair of
VM30's but they didnt have the ompf I wanted. So I bought the 4000 series micropro subwoofer but didnt like how it sounded(3200 sqft room) in my media room, not enough bass. I sold both and got a good amount for each, so now im spending that money from those sales. I am thinking about going SVS route with the sub( the new pb12-plus) but that wont be until at least november. So thats why its important to me to have a pair of mains that have really good base until the pb12's get here.. Im pretty new to this audio stuff but boy does it get addictive... -

Studio 100's go for around 2400...Yes, you can find them cheaper and higher depending where you go. A9's go for 850 ea on amazon,,yes you can find them cheaper depending where you go. I paid 1300 for a pair of a9's new.
You say 3000 for the Studio 100's
Bdaly says, "give Nate a call at Custom Audio Concepts in Lima, OH. I paid $2200.00 for my 100 v.5's"
The poster said new..not used or refurbed.
You gotta shop -

So now my next move is to buy a great receiver...any suggestions anyone? -

that seems strange that he would be charging so little. for example

I have been to other dealers in my area in WI, IL, IN, and have NEVER found them cheaper than than, and the price you saying has to be the lowest I've ever seen. If thats true I might have to sell my polks and buy those. he also must have extremely low profit margins if that is true. -

about 1000 dollars for a receiver...look up the sc-25 from pioneer...

Robert,I'm guessing since you're looking at subs too, you're gearing more towards HT instead of 2 channel right? I think most of us here have been where you are at (looking at getting a AVR. Sometimes I think maybe I would have been better off by not getting the AVR with pre outs and just go ahead and get the preamp processor(since I'm already buying external amps) Lol, talk about following the old rabbithole:) The main thing is that you're happy with your system whatever you get!
-
how much would a pre amp processor cost? that might be a idea....lol
-
Just like any piece of gear in this hobby, the price varies depending on features,age,brand,etc... I was lurking around checking on something to upgrade to a seperate pre/processor from a AVR and kinda liked what I saw in a used Integra 9.9, although I think Onkyo makes one just like it that's a few bucks cheaper.Sorry to be getting off topic here.
