Pandora One

I listened to the Pandora One ( using my HP netbook with a pair of old Mirage speakers, Pio Elite A35r and a pws111 sub) last night and on the contrary to most audiophile, I found the compressed internet music quite enjoyable .

I named one of the station as Linda Ronstadt and the Pandora offered so many more clean, clear music from Bonnie Raitt, Carly Simon, Carole King and even the Eagles.

For $36.00 a year, I believe it's a fantastic deal.

I have the free version and wondered why it sounded crap then I saw the pandora one ........ the files are 192 kilobits per sec

Thats still not very good as you need at least 350 to sound slighly good

I think its worth it for workplace music... I pay for Pandora and enjoy it. Don't listen to it if I was really trying to get the best quality.. but 192kb is good enough in a lot of instances.

10/4. Not quite CD quality yet but for $36.00 a year to have the music running 24/7 , it's much better than any HD radio stations I have listened to.

I turn it on every night and use it as sleeping medication with no side effects.

I am a Pandora One subscriber and use it quite often at work and love it. Also, I use my Sirius subscription to listen to Stern through my Yahoo! Widget at work but there I am not too concerned with quality. When I am at home and I compare my CDs, losseless music files, and vinyl against the streaming songs and there is no comparison.

Recently I have been introduced to http://listen.grooveshark.com/ which is pretty amazing as well.

I use Jango free service and it sounds pretty good using my Maverick D1 DAC/pre. Much better than the free Pandora. IMHO.

I stream free Pandora to my outdoor speakers and in my car. I'm not interested in paying, though. I'm going to check out those two you mentioned, mutelight & MLS. I've also given last.fm a try recently - not a bad option either.

$36 is year isn't bad at all for what you get with Pandora, that's like one meal eating out, and we do that several times a week...

Not only do you listen to better quality internet streams than me, you evidently eat better than me too. ;)

If I understand correctly pandora one with the higher bit rate must be streamed from the PC and something like pandora through Sonos can't take advantage of the higher bit rate?

Could you hook a laptop directly into a zone player and gain the benefits of the higher bit rate?

As much as I use the free version of Pandora I wouldn't mind paying $36/yr. How cheap are some of you?

Evidently, he has better taste in foods. One meal at Fogo de Chao on Westherimer, Hou, Tx will set you back $100.00 not including tax.:D

Anw, out of frustration with Insigma HD, Sangean, Sony HD radio ( I hate to return crap I bought to local store), I am very happy with the quality and the convenient of Pandora One. It's pure enjoyable not for critical listening. Afterall, as folks at ML said " Happy listening" no matter where the music coming from. BTW, what's the freaking wrong with HD radio?

The free version has ads. I hear and see them, therefore, I'm "paying" for what I get - just like "free" broadcast TV. ;) When I want better audio quality, I listen to my own library.

It's not a matter of cheap, it's just that I have no interest in paying for something I don't need.

Cannot agree more that " I have no interest in paying for something I don't need".

I've never heard an ad while listening to Pandora and I have the free version. I use pandora with sonos and there are no ads to worry about.

Now regular radio, I wouldn't pay a nickel to listen to so I'll have to use that comparison to understand not wanting to pay for Pandora.
