If I may say so, it's easy to miss the intent of this movie if dashing, swashbuckling heroism was your expectation.

Agree with the comment above, it would be more properly titled, "Robin Hood Begins" as it ends where the popular story we're all familiar with does in fact begin.

While some unfamiliar placement of characters is written in here, such as King Arthur's return being somewhat delayed by his death, the story is well told and sets up neatly as the prequal it was intended to be.

Regarding the choice of actors, in twelfth century England no one (I'm guessing) looked like Brad Pitt. Rather the unwashed "style" of the day was, IMHO, worn wonderfully by Blanchette and Crow et al.

Personally, I thought some of the attempt at humor, such as when Crow was flirting with Blanchette, seemed out of place and that King John's arrogance was a bit too cartoonish.

Overall a good film that I own and will enjoy often ... just as I do my copy of Errol Flynn's version, but with different expectations.

Watched it for the second time last night, such an impressively done film. I need to add this to my collection.

I'd love to see a sequel done my Mr. Scott but it's a story we've seen so many times already it really isn't necessary.

....I actually appreciated the new approach to an old storyline. Thought Crowe did a great job. Loved the beach BATTLE scene. Looked like a version of D'day. This version seems more realistic....less Hollywood...less myth.

I also like the new "realistic" spin on the story. I'm always good with that. It has what might be deemed and acurate authentic look to the period. No argument there.

It was just lacking emotional punch. And Russell Crowe's accent was in and out. It was distracting to me.

Speaking of Irish tunes and Russell Crowe... anyone who hasn't heard the song The Night I Punched Russell Crowe by Gaelic Storm needs to take a listen... I get a good belly laugh out of it every time.[/url]

Gaelic Storm rocks! They play in my area often enough that I should have seen them much more often than I have...

The Night I Punched Russell Crowe is an excellent tune! It has inspired me to punch a drunk movie star, if ever I encounter one :D

    also, Cary Elwes :)

This is a very good film have different views on the Robin Hood story. I like the way the film made use of the Biographical references life on the Robin Hood era. Surprisingly, the outcome left the possibility of a sequel, I want to see. This latest version of Robin Hood, I rate a 9 out of 10 see. This is a movie, you should see.

I watched it last night and I was pleasantly surprised given the number of so-so ratings I've read. I too wondered about the sequel seed planted at the end....I'll watch that if comes out.

Picked up this Blu ray at BB a couple of weeks ago for 10 bucks and checked it out last weekend. After hearing and reading a lot of the reviews here and elsewhere, didn't expect this to be very good, but all in all, it was ok:) Overall, I'd give it a 7 out of 10 and the audio sounded great on the HT.

I wasn't really into it. I expected a more lively, funny Robin Hood...that of which Russell Crowe has nothing in common.

I'm going to get flamed for this, but I think Johnny Depp would've made a great Robin Hood.

Definitely could see Johnny Depp as a swashbuckling Errol Flynn kind of Robin Hood. I'm really hoping the next Robin Hood movie will more like what most people are expecting.
